Help with anxiety...without medication?

Question:
Hellooo! I guess I wouldn't call it straight up anxiety. I am a nervous person when it comes to meeting new people, especially when they want to get to know me. I become poorly articulated and lose focus. Sometimes I will just become a complete snob just to "deal with it" in an easier fashion. I have a great interest in people, and if I am in the right mood I can be the warmest person, and if I am not I am horrid.

It isnt just a people issue. I can't really focus...not even enough to sit down and relax. When I am in school, studying is a complete task even though I love learning. I want to learn...it's just that it takes me a long time to focus.

I did recently quit smoking marijuana after 6 years. It got old, and I am starting to feel more now, but not even nearly as much as I used to...but I am starting to be able to really think.

I do need more practices. What advice can you give me to relieve tension so I can become calm, peaceful, and focused? I want to ...be here now.

YOU MIGHT TRY YOGA, JOIN A CLASS OR BUY THE DVD AND DO IT AT HOME, IT IS VERY RELAXING AND A BIG HELP. JUST TRY NEW THINGS, I COULD NEVER READ AND REMEMBER WHAT I READ VERY WELL. LATELY I HAVE DISCOVERED THAT I CANNOT READ AT BEDTIME IS MY PROBLEM AND THAT IS WHEN I WAS TRYING TO READ. YOU JUST NEED TO MAKE A LIST OF THINGS TO DO AND ALSO RETHINK YOUR DIET, TOO MANY CARBS AND SWEETS, POP AND SUCH CAN AFFECT YOUR BODY AND MIND BOTH. GOOD LUCK
No more drugs, alcohol or tobacco. Let your body recover. And PRAY to the One who MADE you for peace. He will hear you and give it to you.
kay that was really long so i didnt read it but

Hi Britt,
I have anxiety trouble too. May I suggest a book that has helped me quite a lot? It's called "Feeling Good," by David Burns, MD. If you can find it in a bookstore, it's well worth having!
Blessings to you, sweetie.

~EDIT~
I see that I have an extra copy of that book. If you can't find it around, e-mail me and I'll snail-mail the extra one to you.

there is a positive aspect to your disorder. you can use it to accomplish a lot (but not stoned or pilled up). cold turkey is wonderful if you can hack it. you have bad moments, maybe hours, but you forget about it sometimes when you are staying real busy. that is the light at the end of the tunnel for me. try it. (if the light is coming straight at you run out of the tunnel quickly!) try again later.
Take a crap...I am not even kidding...when you..(you know)...it releases chemicals in your head that help relax you...
