Sam-e or 5-htp?

Hi, I don't know about sam-e or 5-htp, but the following steps will eliminate (or at least significantly reduce) your panic attacks naturally:
1.Breathe properly - if you control your breathing, you control panic. As soon as you notice the signs of anxiety, check your breathing: breathe in slowly through your nose pushing your tummy out (to the count of 5 or so). Breathe out slowly and for a bit longer (to the count of 7 or so) through your mouth. Do not breathe rapidly or shallowly (in the chest area). This will soon restore the balance of oxygen and you will feel a lot better.
2. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy! CBT is proven to be the most effective thing for panic attacks, OCD and anxiety etc. It takes a bit of work, but it is super effective. (After 15 years of panic attacks, mine stopped completely). You can speak to your doctor about taking a course or you can take a course for free online at: www.livinglifetothefull.com
3. Try relaxation exercise tapes (progressive muscular relaxation). They really make a difference if you practise often enough (i.e. twice a day). They will also help you sleep better if done at bedtime. You can get free downloads online. E.g.: http://www.studentservices.utas.edu.au/c...
With each step practise makes perfect. (i.e. practise the steps every day, not just when you are feeling bad). I hope you feel better soon. Best of luck!
I don't think either are optimal, but they may help a bit.
You might want to look into liquid Kava Kava which by the way doesn't taste good but acts quickly. There has been some liver issues with Kava, so check that out as well.
Also look into S-Theanine, GABA and Kava Kava tablet form.
Sam-E is usually used for depression and can help anxiety, probably on a more long-term basis.
This is just my opinion.
Neither.
SAM-E can be very stimulating and make anxiety worse. 5-HTP is a waste. It does not cross the blood brain barrier.
SAM-E is good for depression, but not for Anxiety.
Better supplements for anxiety are these two:
Source: My doctor a leading herbal supplement researcher in the US.
L-Theanine – Abundant in green tea, L-theanine has a significant effect on the release or reduction of neurotransmitters like dopamine and serotonin, resulting in improved memory and learning ability. L-Theanine has been shown to be effective in the treatment of anxiety, nervousness, sleep disturbances, Premenstrual syndrome (PMS), and ADD/ADHD. L-Theanine increases brain GABA and dopamine levels, and does not produce drowsiness at normal dosages of 100 to 200 mg per day.
Valerian - In addition to promoting sound sleep, valerian has a reputation for easing anxiety and relaxing tense muscles. Valerian is thought to lessen anxiety because in blocking brain receptors for the neurotransmitter GABA, it also inhibits nerve impulses and stress-related messages from reaching the brain. Many have taken valerian for occasional sleeplessness, often with inconsistent results. For valerian to be effective for anxiety or sleep, it needs to be taken daily, with results usually within two to three weeks of continued use.
they are usualy used for depression, but I would try SAMe first
