How do I stop worrying if others like me?

Question:
I am constantly obsessing over whether people like me or not. The thing is, these people who I am worrying about liking me or not are people from my past. I am 21 years old and I am still worrying about people who I thought didn't like me when I was 15 and 16 years old. I don't know how to put a stop to these thoughts as I know they are unreasonable to have. The fact is, I don't really care about what others think of me who did not go to highschool with me, but if I found out that someone from my highschool hated me I would become deeply depressed. I keep analyzing situations to tell myself that no one hated me, but that only makes my thoughts worse. The thought of someone hating me from highschool gets me so upset that I end up phoning different people to see if these individuals really did hate me. Everyone I have talked to keeps telling me no these individuals did not hate you but I have trouble believing them. Its as if no amount of evidence I get can satisfy my doubt. Help?

To Increase Confidence:

1. Make a list of your strong points.

All the positive things about yourself and the things that you are good at doing. Think of compliments you have received or things that come easily to you. It doesn't matter what it is, if it's good, write it down.

2. Choose two of those things that you want to work on to improve even more.

It's important to succeed and by concentrating on the areas you are already good at you will have a better chance of becoming even more sure of yourself. Remember that success builds upon success.

3. Exude confidence even if you don't feel like it.

Talk to yourself in an encouraging way and stay away from negative thoughts and people as you can.

Instead surround yourself with positive, confident, and successful people. This will become a habit and one that will build confidence.

4. Look at yourself in a different way than you are used to doing.

It can change your life and help your confidence level to rise. See yourself as the self confident person you want to be and before you know it you will become that person.

If you have a set-back do not let it get the best of you. Remember the times when you exhibited self confidence and how good it felt and then try again and each time will help you to build confidence and confidence building will become a way of life.

Why don't you get some counseling? Thinking so much about high school when you are twenty one is not a good way to move forward in life. Help yourself get past whatever happened in high school that is making you so upset, and focus on the people and relationships you develop in your adult life. :-)
I had the same trouble for awhile, but then I realized that not everyone is going to like me. In fact, its impossible because everyone is so different. As long as you know your a good person then that should give you enough strength to say "ok, they don't like me but it doesn't matter because they don't really know me." Then, you just move on to those who do.
just dont give a **** about them...you should be the most important person in your life
The only way to solve this is to face the world with the real you, and do not think about if others like you or not...think more how to find people YOU like. Do not stick and care about people who do not recognize you as you are, but take a step beyond this thought and try to find new ones who want to share friendship with you. If you continue to fill your brain of thoughts of others who did not care about you from your past, you will easy forget yourself. Stop worrying about the past and the future!
