My boyfriend asleep all the time because of his condition?

Question:
I can't reach my boyfriend cos he is asleep and been isolating himself because of medicine's effects. I don't know what to do with him... help. He is seeing a psychiatrist and he was prescribed xanax and amphetamines which I suspect he abused.

Answers:
No, your b/f is fine. He is not abusing his medication. The initial process of the medication needs to take effect before your b/f starts getting into a more 'normal' lifestyle of alert coherent awakeness like you are in.

Amphetamines are "uppers" which make people high and awake, so I wouldn't say your b/f abuses them if he is asleep all the time. By the way, barbituates are "downers" which make people low and depressed.

Xanax causes drowsiness (and lightheadedness) during the initial stages of use, but the patient gets less drowsy after continued use (see below) of the medicine...

He'll be fine, but needs to have time to let the drugs take effect.
Uh, find a new b/f.
report it to the psychiatrist and help him get out of isolation.
I do not understand the prescribing of speed and xanax. What would that combo treat. If you need an anti-anxiety med you have anxiety. Taking speed is counter-productive.
