Is Asperger's Syndrome considered a disability or mental illness?
Question:
Answers:
Its definitely classified as a mental illness by technicality. However, people with aspergers are not crazy or violent. Things like depression are also considered a mental illness.
As a person with aspergers myself, I can say that it is definitely a major disability. In my case, it wasn't diagnosed until last year so it has already ruined my life.
Asperger's Syndrome is an Autism Spectrum Disorder and it is a disability. You can qualify for Disability if you have this depending on the severity of it.
It's a mental illness
but mental illness may also be considered disability.
It's sort of both. At least, that's what I think. Asperger's is high-functioning autism.
Bonafide disability.
I wouldn't call it a mental illness but more like a disability. Asperger is a high functioning form that lies in the autism spectrum disorder. This means that asperger patients can be very intelligent (high functioning) but may have certain autistic symptoms like difficulty to socially interact, etc.
