Dealing with depression..?
Question:
Answers:
I, too have been very depressed and I have been taking anti-depressants for many years.one thing my therapist has stressed to me throughout the years has been to exercise. When you exercise your body releases many endorphins into your system. And exercise definitely has positive effects on the brain. Endorphins trigger natural opiates in your brain similar to opiates such as morphine...endorphins increase the level of seratonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine in the brain and have been associated with elavated mood. So, what I am getting at is that you should get some exercise every day to elavate your state of mind. Grief is something we all have to deal with at one time or another..like when my only child died...now THAT IS TRUE GRIEF and it has taken me 11 years just to be able to talk about it without bursting into tears...so we all deal with our grief at different time frames...but I wouldn't be afraid to take medication if your doctor feels it is in order. I want to wish you the best of luck in the future with your situation and may God bless and keep you safe and happy !!
Antidepressants used to be really addictive and people struggled to get off them. But this is an old fashioned view now as nearly all antidepressants nowadays AREN'T addictive. Try sweating through depression for a few weeks and if you still feel dreadful ask your GP to write you up for an antidepressant (probably Prozac/Fluoxetine).
Do something nice for someone and you will feel better immediately.
I dont think you should start medication, like you say, you may have trouble getting off it. Do you have people you can talk to? Share your problems with? You can e-mail me if you wish.
I suffer from severe depression, and I went through a very traumatic and heart breaking breakup. It has taken me almost 2 years to start to get over it. It still hurts me to think about it. I recently have been medicated, so majority of the emotional rollar coaster I was without. It was hard. Alot of doctors now will prescribe an anit depressant temporarily to get you over the initial hump of things, and then wean you off when you are ready to start coping completely on your own. All these concerns should definately be discussed with your doctor. Then the 2 of you can come to an appropriate decision for you.
