Why zoloft, valium, xanax... are not called medications? Why drugs?

They are called medications. A psychiatrist would not call your meds "drugs." BUT, medications are drugs. By definition, they alter the function of the body.

A drug is any chemical or biological substance, synthetic or non-synthetic, that when taken into the organism's body, will in some way alter the functions of that organism
They are also called medications. Some dr. call them drugs.
