I helps to count repetitive things in your mind, this way you're not thinking about the days events and your mind isn't all over the place. It should help you get to sleep...

Counting sheep is what most people do, but you can count whatever you like, frogs, cows, people, cats, flowers, numbers, ect..

you brain will get distracted and wander. wander, dont think. try to count, and wander. picture yourself asleep. gradually youll fall asleep. it works, if you let it.

What I do when I decide to go to sleep and if I start getting some thoughts I have to literaly interrupt myself and go blah blah blah. Count. Or one that seems to work for me is start thinking about good memories from my childhood and try to ease into those memories.
Try taking benadryl. Its the active ingredient in tylenol PM. If you dont have those brand names where you are from ask a pharmacist about Diphenhydramine Hydrachloride. They should be able to hook you up. Its non-habit forming as well, and it works great! There is also Doxylamine Succinate. Its another active ingredient in some otc sleep medications.
smoke weed, seriously, people down it but to many people its a good way to fall asleep just around bedtime, either that or go to a pharmacy and buy some over the counter sleeping pills.
Counting and stuff doesn't work so well for me, because I anticipate the next number. Keeps me up. But it does work for some people, so I'd try that too, of course.

Playing soft, instrumental music helps me. Avoid anything with singing or lyrics, and just try to focus on the softness of the music. I like Chopin's nocturnes and also Rachmaninoff.

If you don't really like classical through romantic period music, this actually works better, so I've heard, because one doesn't anticipate the notes as much.
