How can I keep myself sane?!?


Question:
It's Friday afternoon, and I've got another hour at work. I'm bored stiff and it's raining outside so I can't go for a cigarette. How do I keep myself from going mad?!

Answers:
1) Do not watch the news
2) Do not watch the clock
3) Picture your boss on the can or naked

Sing the circus song in your head.
hit your head on your desk and pass out for an hour
they will take you to the medical clinic your works expense and you'll get drugs for your friday night

try some deep breathing and think about what you will be able to do when you leave work, not about what you can't do right now.

take a deep breath. keep praising yourself for every 10 mins. you can go without cracking. 1 hour can go away in a flash. trust me.
Go talk to the boss about the weekend. See what the boss is doing. Chances are the boss will let their guard down.
tell your innerself to relax and picture a river flowing endless at both ends. calm weather and sunshine with clouds. works for me =)
I always plan my weekend, or write my shopping list, or search ebay for that special something! Or answer questions helps me switch off... :)

Have a smoke in the rain! The looks you draw from your co-workers as you trudge back in sopping wet should be at least a little amusing. Then come back and hang with us. (us being Yahoo Q&A)

Balance your checkbook. Make a to do list. Write out your grocery list. Organize your desk.
Start planning something in your head and make notes or a list in your word processing program. Plan a dinner party you want to throw or how you are going to rearrange your place, make a grocery shopping list, etc. Something useful for yourself that looks busy.
Sane? Who wants to be sane? Sanity is SO overrated. Let loose. Howl like a monkey, climb walls, babble like a baboon. Let it out. Go ahead... let it all out. Show the world you aren't afraid of being really "you". People will have a newfound respect for you.
time for the nicorette gum or the patch
if that does not help try bringing some sugerfree gum or sugarless hard candy.
I know it's hard when you are having a craving and you are a smoker. try to keep your mind occupied and just do busy work it;s only an hour. Call a friend.

Be happy that it's raining, so you can't go for a cigarette - one cigarette shortens your life 5 minutes, it's not healthy!
And be happy that it's not THAT hot like here in Austria (104°)..we are melting!^^
Let's see, one hour of work left...you blew off a few minutes entering your question...so you could always go and answer some other questions, which will kill a little more time and get you distracted from needing a cigarette, borrow an umbrella and go smoke anyway (15 minutes gone there), you could do the unthinkable and actually start a small project you've been putting off, clean your office, do some filing, make a cup of coffee - drink it - carry a cup to your buddy and have a five or ten minute chat...that will use up some time.best of all - tell your boss your bored and see what tips he might have...tell him/her you're not likely to finish anything you're being paid to do so how about letting you go home early...Hope that helps.
