Is febrile seizures considered brain injury?

Question:
My dd had 7 febrile seizures when she was a baby due to seizures. She does have some of the signs of a brain injury like memory loss, difficult processing information, awkward social behaviors, zoning, difficult focussing on important information in the class room. If you think she does have a mild brain injury, please tell me where I can get info for helping her cope. Every day with her is a daunting task and somedays I feel like I will go insane. I know I need more breaks, but she feels she must be with me ALL the time. She is 11 and has the social level of a 6 year old. No body brought up the words "traumatic brain injury" to me until I met a lady and she noticed some symptoms and told me to do some research. Please give me some advice.

Answers:
Febrile seizures are brought on by a high temperature or fever as a result of a viral infection. The seizures should not have caused brain injury. You will find that brain injury is more likely caused by a viral infection itself. Did she ever have meningitis or any infection that effected her brain?

Your problem is obviously how your daughter is going to get the most out of life. I would start by talking to a GP and probably not the one you are currently seeing. A GP can refer you to someone who will be able to help your daughter.

I wish you and your daughter all the best. I hope she can live a fulfilling and independent life
When a child has a febrile seizure their body is actually helping them -- Febrile Seizures are common in children under the age of 2, the seizure is normally a result of a high fever, and when the body has a seizure its natural way of resetting the body.

If you are concerned about a brain injury as a result of the seizures you should speak to a medical professional, and you may want to get the child test for other learning disabilities.
