Question on eating disorders for people who know about eating disorders or who have dealt/deal with them?

Question:
I am 16 and recently I asked a question dealing with healthy ways to stay in shape and healthy. One of the main reasons is I have suffered with bulimia on and off for about 3 almost 4 years now. I don't know what to do because everytime I try to get better I fall back into my eating "habits". I have been hospitalized twice and have been seeing a therpist for 1 year now but nothing seems to help. I defanitley want to get better but with all the set backs feel there is no hope. For anyone who has or is dealing with some sort of eating disorder do you have any tips? Anyone for that matter who has any tips on how to help myself?!?

Answers:
Jen, you cannot take blame for the issues in your family. A strong family will not be torn apart because of your illness. Also, just because you "see a therapist" or "have been hospitalized" doesn't mean YOU don't have to do the work. No one else can do it for you. It is an addiction and there are triggers to your behaviors. You have to figure out what those triggers are for you and work against giving in to the urge to purge.
I have been in recovery for 9 years and I still slip. Those slips usually happen when I'm stressed and not paying attention to my feelings or needs. I have to stop and look openly and honestly at what I'm doing.
Some people I knew used a timer whenever they got an urge. They set the timer for 5 or 10 minutes and if at the end of the period they still wanted to throw up, they did. BUT most of the time the urge passed and they no longer wanted to do it. In the 5 minutes they found something else to focus on.
There is always hope, but you, Jen, need to take responsibility for your actions. EDs become your alter ego and can take over. But you are in charge and can regain control of your life with the help of a good therapist and nutritionist and sometimes meds. Maybe you are compatible with your current therapist. If not, there is no law against changing. Maybe your hospitalizations weren't at an ED specialty care center. That makes a big difference.

Jen YOU ARE NOT FAT..let your body nourish from the food. Nutrition is good. Work on your self steem and tell your doctor about the anxiety you feel. Acupuncture and yoga are excellent
I think is iportant for you to get therapy for you diseas, and to try to not make your self throw up, I know is a hard thing to do, but you can do it, If you see your self in the mirror and you don't like what you see try to fouces in the good things you have in the inside, becuse if you onlu focuse on the way you look you will never be happy, because their will always be someone with better hair, o nicer eyes, and that will allways make you misserbale, yous try to be the best you can be, and eat healthy things and exersys(don't over do it) do yoga, pilates, thouse helpd me alot, try to get to know how you are, have an alone time, that's the only advice I can give you
