How can i start a conversation with a psychologist for the first time?

Answers:
I am a clinical psychologist. If you came into my office, I'd be doing my best to put you at ease, and make any questions as easy as possible. People like me are in this profession because we truly like people and want to help. So, show up and be honest. If you end up liking the psychologist, that's a good sign. If not, you may want to interview other psychologists until you find one that feels like he or she can see and understand you and will be able to help.
Any good therapist will guide you through the introductory process. Relax. They are there to help you and are professionals. Let the therapist take the lead. It is easy.
Relax, it will be okay. The psychologist is trained to start the conversation. You just follow their lead.
Hello, my name is Joe. I have this problem:
Ok not really... they are professionals, they will get you through it, so don't worry.
I was afraid of this also but some how my councler always knows how to start a good conversation.
Relax, just go in with an open mind, a willingness to listen and learn, be honest and the rest will fall in to place.
Well, you could mess with her for a moment...count and straighten her pens, pretend your covered in imaginary spiders, do a couple eye twitches.. Just kidding! Actually, I've only been to one. I just said I either feel as nervious as a chichiuaua or so much in a dark place that I just want to croak! And when I'm stressed out, I count stuff in threes. She asked what happens if you can't make it work? (my counting) I said, well, my backup plan is 6,9, or just plain one. She laughed. And then I said now all I'm waiting for are those voices in my head. She asked me, "Well, do you hear voices?". I told her no.I had to make light of my neurosis, but give clear answers. A pychologist just wants to understand what's eatin' ya, that's all. And if your condition is from trauma or a chemical imbalance. It's not a job interview where you need the correct answers, it's a meeting of two minds trying to get to the root of a problem. It was actually quite pleasant and a relief. I half way expected her to call in Big Bruno with the tranquilizer gun and straight jacket!!!
Perhaps you could go to the emergency room if its serious. I have seen a psychologist there before. Sometimes they even have a neurologist. You just have to find the right hospital.
