Anybody got any ideas about how to get a mother in law to go to the DR to seek treatment for possible bipolar?

Question:
My ma-in-law has episodes of rage and hostility and also extreme depression. Anybody got any ideas?

Answers:
During the times that she is not acting in an extreme manner try to talk to her.

Let her know that she needs some kind of help and that there's no reason to be ashamed of getting help.

Suggest that either you or someone in the family will go along with her to the initial doctor visit to lend moral support if she wants.

Explain to her in a non-confrontational way that with a proper diagnosis and treatment her life can greatly improved and she won't feel like she is on such a roller coaster of emotion.

There's really not a whole lot you can do besides this, because unless someone is a threat to their own life or the life of someone else you can't force someone to get treatment. But, if during one of her rages she ever threatens or physically lashes out at you or anyone in your family, you should call the police. Then not only will you and your family be protected but she will most likely get some court ordered treatment. Also if she ever threatens to take her own life be sure that someone calls 911 right away and they'll bring her to the ER where she'll be seen by a psychiatrist.

Best of luck to you, take care
LOL sorry I had too.

Best of luck to you, but it's very tough. I lost the love of my life, my reason for living, because she is bipolar.
