Taking citalopram?
Question:
Answers:
I am taking the very similar Escitalopram 20mg per day (marketed as Lexapro) and find it very satisfactory. (I have tried many other antidepressants.)
It began to work within 2 weeks.
However everyone's reaction to any drug is individual. Wikipedia says it may also cause weight gain,
gastrointestinal upsets, sleepiness, and dizziness.
Edit: I strongly suggest that you tell your doctor if you experience any ill effects after taking citalopram, but DON'T stop taking it suddenly as you may have serious withdrawal symptoms.
(I did a google search and there is plenty of info about possible side effects.)

i took this for a while and it made me feel worse,of course everyone is different,i didnt have much appetite you might think this was good but then i became sick and dizzy from not eating,i couldnt tell what was real from a dream it felt i was just in a dream world constantly!good luck and hope everything works out ok!
drugs are bad.
my wife took them for a while , she had no real side affects for the first week or two then the mood swings started, stopped taking them , taking fluoxetine 20mg's now and shes much better no side affects at all up till now.
Hi, I have been taking citalopram for about 6 months, the only problems I had were a bit of an upset stomach for the first week or so.I didnt gain or lose any weight. It didnt bring me really down before I went up like many other forms of anti-depressants which is good.
I originally started taking it because I felt I had no other option, the counsellor I saw was very surly(strange for a counsellor) and didnt really seem to offer me any advice or support, I was very down virtually continuosly.
It has worked to an extent for me but its certainly no miracle drug, I feel like I can cope a little better now but still suffer bouts of complete misery from time to time(so dont expect to be swingin off the lampshades in pure ecstacy, lol).
I would really reccomend trying all other options before you go on citalopram as I now cant seem to get off it. I tried a while ago and just broke down in tears(in all fairness the cash machine had just ate my £50 and this probably contributed towards my crieing tantrum lol) But there are worse drugs to be on Ive got a friend addicted to Halls Tunes and Lemsip lol
All the best with whatever you decide and good luck for the future

I have been taking citalopram since January the only side affect I had at first was bad dreams but it seemed to work fairly quickly. I not noticed any difference in my weight.
I've been taking it since april, and the only problem I've had with it was that i was slightly manic to say the least!
It has calmed down now though, and i find the pills are helping me a lot, though i do sometimes get a bit grouchy.
give 2 weeeks to kick in or after 3 if u feel worse go back and change, they made me worse, so be careful, get someone to monitor yr behaviour, as they sent me deeper in depression.
I took Citalopram for one month and I felt some benefit in about about two weeks. The side effects I had at the beginning were feeling a bit sick, yawning a lot, feeling spaced out and not sleeping well. These went after two weeks.
I was taken off them because I got a lot of bruising on my legs which my GP put down to the tablets. I managed to come off them ok, and I only had two days when I felt slighly dizzy whenever I stood up too quickly.
I got my appetite back when I was on them and I didn't put on any weight, but I think I may have put on weight if I was on them for longer.
Everyone is different, but I hope that helps. Good luck x
Ps, don't ever go on Venlafaxine, they are awful and I had terrible side effects trying to get off them.
i took it for a short time a while ago. it'll take about 10 days or so to kick in. and then you'll feel the benefits. it didn't really affect my appetite, but i think it made me feel a bit tired...it was ok though i had no side effects and came off it really easily.
i took it for one day and had a severe reaction to it! never again thanks
