There are no "stages".
There are 2 forms of bipolar illness, however.
Bipolar I is the classic form, which includes manic episodes as well as episodes of major depression.
Bipolar II differs from Bipolar I only in that the non-depressed episodes are hypomanic (i.e., not as severe as a manic epsidoe - same types of symptoms as mania - just not as pronounced).
hello its a medical term they use these foolish Dr's an physiologists put these terms an give people new phycotic drugs that they don't know what they do where subject to be the guinea pigs for there own phycotic studies I'm bi polar an they have given me every med on the market an told me i have this an that if you are bi polar stay with one Dr never wander around an get these opinions how ever Ive never herd of bi polar 2 if a Dr is telling you you have bi polar 2 maybe you should see a diff Dr i hope you will be fine from a friend Michael
