Why do people think church and religion will solve everything?

It's sad, but another question is, "Why must this issue be polarized along the lines of Christian or non-Christian?" I am a christian and also a scientist, which is not a contradiction in terms. So here's how I'm going to reconcile both points of view.
We know as scientists that there is something called the psychosomatic effect or mind over matter. People who claim they were healed by faith are somehow miraculously healed even though such things are trans scientific. Such cases are rare though and having such complete faith in healing can be disastrous. I know by being a christian and a scientist both that some absolutely incredible advances have been made in the field of medicine that allow our bodies to be healed. Furthermore, I believe that an attitude of medicine healing our bodies with the belief that GOD wants us to be healed can be a very powerful combination. I have a life threatening illness and I am now in remission through a combination of steroids, aspirin, and faith. And now, Lo and behold, I'm in remission where I stay a day at a time. My point is that I don't think the we as scientists or as Christians should polarize our attitude beside one or the other. Beside, there are a great many teachings in the bible that show us how to find peace in our spirits and in our hearts should we choose to follow them.
Because some people are still stuck in the mystical world of demons and angels.
If you want to believe then believe! If you want psychological help, see a therapist.
seriously some issues are matter of belief. If you think you're the only one on your side then huge resentment grows and anger and frustration. but its comforting to know that others are there whether its family friends community or god, then you can get through it all. obviously church isn't a cure but helps you get through some very tough times. why, because there are some great people out there who don't judge and are just supportive. of course can't vouch for all people in a church or community, but you'll find the good ones.
it makes many people feel good to open there mind to the possibility of god and his infinite wisdom. i have felt it before when you know in your heart that there is a god and he loves you it makes all your problems seem Minor. you wont get your answer but you'll be OK living without it knowing you don't have to know everything. good luck.
CHURCH IS NOT THE SOLVER FOR ALL PROBLEMS.
For a lot of folks, any dodge is easier than dealing with reality! Have a great day! ;-)=
I think you are taking some advice out of context.
Church is the doorway to enable change that might not otherwise be brought about, and as such, it should be greatly appreciated.
I'm confused. How do you move from a recommendation that church could be helpful to "people think...religion will solve everything"?
What makes you so sure that spiritual approaches represent invalid or inappropriate strategies for the management of psychological symptomology?
Because they want to believe there's something more to help them.
Sometimes when you don't have faith in yourself it helps to have faith in something or someone else. Religion has always been the great controller. Many doctrines of many religions were established to control the masses. History was written as biblical prophecy by rulers, despots and even a very corrupt church. At the same time, many people do find comfort believing in something. There are always the exceptional few who feel that their prayers have been answered and they have been relieved of their burden. That's great but it is much like the placebo effect and doesn't work for the majority.
