Do rehab centers really work?

Question:
My sister left one and was doing really well at a half way house then had a relapse and tried to kill hersef. I will help pay for her to go back. Would it be better for me to give her money to get her on her feet again and lots of love and sapport. I have never heard of someone truly being helped by digging into their past only hurt.

Answers:
Rehabs work. If they didn't, they wouldn't exist.

I wouldn't suggest giving her money as she will just spend it on her habbit. Not everyone comes out of rehab the first time successfully. She may need to go several times before she is completely cured. But then again she may never be "completely cured". That is why rehabs usually asign sponsors. Someone that your sister can turn to with an unbiased opinion on how she should and can handle things.

Sorry your sister has a problem and it's good that she has you in her life. Keep up the good work and I hope everything turns out for the best.
Some rehab centers focus on the patients problems at first, then go into what the patient likes to do with their time to replace their bad habits, etc. It's more important for your sister to be in a rehab center surrounded by people who know how to help her. They go to group meetings and are instructed in classes. They are kept busy and are encouraged to express their ideas and work through possible solutions to their problems. They realize they're not alone. They live with their peers with similar problems.

Money might get her on her feet again but if she's not learned anything about solving her problems she will remain in that same vicious cycle of relapse. Rehab centers teach you how to become happy within yourself. through difficult focus on what is going wrong. Then it can be fixed and the result is a new chance at living a good life. Good Luck to her and you.
rehab is basically to get someone stable its all up the individual to take what they learn and use it in life rehab facilities give people information and get em stable on meds if they need em it doesn't fix folks

you can lead a horse to water but ya can't make em drink
First, if she relapse she is in a dangerous state, do not give her money, it pretty much will end up being used on drugs... basically you'll end up as an enabler. Unfortunately you can't force something to get help and change if there not ready, a lot of people must fail and fall herd before they change. Offer her your support that is HUGE! Also let her know your willing to help pay for another try at rehab, the in patient might of been daunting for her, she might do well with intense out patient, they over programs that last 3-6 hours a day with drug screenings(you don't need to let her know that) "Digging" in the past does hurt, but the longer it goes the harder it is to move on from it. Rehabs and treatment programs to work, the person has to be ready and willing.
