Question:
how do yiu cope with the darkness and days ending at 4?
Answers:
Sad lights really do work - but can be quite expensive. I take mine to work with me. I too dread that oncoming doom every year. Other things that can help - 1) Vitamin supplements 2) st johns wort 3) walking briskly. Hope this helps xx
Consider purchasing a daylight simulating type of lamp. Ott lites, for example. It can make all the difference.
Best of luck,

I bought my wife a SAD light from Ebay and it really works much to my surprise.
She has it on at the side of her desk at work for an hour or so every day, she really does feel better for it.
i always have bright lights on in the morning and at night and i take vitamin D.
just reflect on the long days looking at the rain ...then laugh..!
get 100 wtt lights bulb and no that summer is on its way never think your sad just no one hears your pain put it on paper and that god your alive peace be unto you
For me, I have found that using lighting that provides light similar to sunlight helps a great deal. You can find such light bulbs in the regular light bulb section and do not cost much more than regular bulbs. I have found, you do not need to buy the expensive kind, but only the kind that say they work as sunlight, or at least in that spectrum. Additionally, I have found that halogen lights also help a great deal.
Socialising with other people has always been hard for me. But that is what I need to do to keep my spirits up. People who will share their feelings and experiences with me truthfully-who will pull me up when they think I'm not on the right path. I go to a 12 step group but also trying to get involved in church. I read the Holy Bible too because that tells me how I should be living(Only read a good part of the New Testament so far).
Try taking up a hobby in the evening, Swimming would be great, or a club where they have a circuit that you could walk around this makes endorphins in your brain and that helps with depression.
it all helps.
Also get up early try and have as much of the day light that there is.
I have a real hard time actually. I'm usually on antidepressants by then. What my doctor suggests is to get those natural light lightbulbs and to walk outside in the sun every day while it's up (even if it's on my lunch hour). Have things to look forward to. I have a friend who goes on her vacation in February every year because it's so dreary at home.
If I were you I'd take advantage and enjoy the weather you have right now and not worry about it already. If it helps go to Loews and get some of those lightbulbs and stock up on good uplifting books. Also exercising in the winter helps me as well. I go to a gym that's cheap.
- Purchase a special light that is specially designed for S.A.D. sufferers.
- Create a photo album of your summer holidays, look at memories of the past summers, sort out your summer clothes..
- If possible, go on holiday in the winter instead of the summer.
Sorry, my suggestions aren't too great, but hopefully you'll find something that'll work for you.
My Mum has SAD and in the winter we get her brighter light bulbs and throughout the year I collect plastic summer flowers and when winter hits I plant them in the Garden. I know it sounds strange but it really helps her.
