I am the ultimate procrastinator - besides turning off the computer, how do you deal with this in your life?
Question:

such a devastating thing procrastination is. I try to go cold turkey on videogames and computer to take care of anything really important so that it doesn't come back to bite me. I do have a lot of willpower when stuff really matters and you should too. Just say no to the computer and other time wasters, hunker down and get it done. It's as simple as that.
I just got a great suggestion from a psychologist about this. He suggested making up a "menu" of all the things that should be done, then allowing yourself to choose something you feel more like doing when you look at it.
This is not a regular to-do list you have to go through (I never get around to those), but a no-pressure menu of ideas. Somehow it works better.
I always have a mantra when I'm starting to procrastinate, 'Just do it!'
This may sound crazy but it works for me and my kids. My father is the world's greatest procrastinator and I took after him and my girls took after me. What my mother would do and which I continued to do for myself and my children is to set a timer for about 15 to 20 minutes and tell myself and them that for that length of time I could do what I wanted but at the end of that time I and they would have to do what we were putting off. For some reason it works maybe because you sort of get your cake and eat it to. But it really does work for us. It can't hurt to try it.
