Why won't some people admit they need psychiatric medicine?even if they see things and do crazy things.?

Question:
do they do it to get attention or it's for real.

Answers:
Because psychiatric problems are hard to diagnose as the symptoms are vast and varied
Most people with psychiatric problems don`t realise that they are sick , As to them it is as normal as we see it and don`t know how to get help. It is usually others that notice or report the strange happenings ,but many of us are worried telling some one in case we are wrong
The people that do crazy things for attention are only stupid or show offs but don`t have real psychiatric problems

There is a fine line between sanity and crazy
what do you consider crazy behavior?if they have a chemical imbalance in the brain it is not attention seeking behavior. ... help the person get treatment not criticism.
Because they are crazy and dont think they have a problem. they are so used to living that way it is normal for them. It scares the hell out of the rest of us, but hey thorizine for all.

Denial is often a symptom, as with Bipolar Disorder: others construct elaborate fantasy worlds; rarely is it for attention.
If someone is not a danger to others or themselves, why do you care so much about keeping them medicated? I'm all for those who deny treatment or leave the hardcore anti-psychotics for a last resort.

Those medications are not good, often the side effects of the drugs are worse than the illness itself. Often returning to a state where one can know he or she has an illness like schizophrenia and compare it to the past is too devestating to face. Just imagine yourself in that position.

It's a trade off really. No, most people don't do it for attention unless they've got something like borderline personality disorder, then it's all about the attention seeking behavoir.
A lot of people feel that by taking medication and seeking help, they are admitting to a weakness. A lot of people would rather live the way they presently are, than admit that anything is wrong with them. To some, admitting it and dealing with it is the painful part, and it's a whole lot easier to just live in denial.

I have a hard time imagining that anyone would say that they "see things" or "do crazy things" just to get attention. That, in its' self is gounds for the need of some psychological help!

If you have someone in mind, all you can do is offer as much support as possible and try to persuade them to take care of their problem.
For two reasons:

1) They may not think they have a problem that needs help.

2) Taking medication is a pain in the ***. For example, Bipolar patients usually take a cocktail of medications for the rest of their lives. These medications have side effects, some of which are disturbing, like naseau, weight gain, thirst, etc.
Believe it or not some people are frightened of getting help. They might be worried about what others would think, of having a lable or being shut up in an institution. They may also think that people will not believe them.
when your brain is sick, it can sometimes be hard for that same brain to accurately assess information. If that part of the brain that accurately checks reality is diseased, then there is no capacity to accuartely check reality.

When your computer printer is out of ink, the cpu can let you know. When the cpu is damgaged, it can't tell it's damaged. The computer just stops working.
