Mental problems.. but what kind?

Question:
Ok.. theres alot of things to list here so bear with me. A few times ive woken up to a lady calling my name in a strage accent, another time it was as if someone threw something against my wood bedhead which made me literally wake JUMPING up in shock. Lights have gone on and off without anyone being home and I could have sworn ive heard doors opening and closing by themselves. Could I be hullucianating? I have a history of depression and use to be on medication when I was 14 (im now 18). I can be a very paranoid person and generally dont like mixing with alot of people. I recently had an abortion that I didnt want to have, the only reason I had it is because I wouldnt have anywhere to go if I continued the pregnany.. I really hate myself for that. I have a history of cutting myself, but nothing compares to how I feel now. Theres alot more to list I could go on and on but I think that will do for now...

Answers:
There are a few mental illnesses that tend to come on in late teens-twenties. Schizophrenia is one in particular that can come on after an emotional trauma. My best friend's mother became schizophrenic after she had a miscarraige. She does pretty good on medication, but she still suffers some paranoia.

I've heard of major depression causing hallucinations.

Talk to your doctor about what's happening. Finding a psychologist or some professional you can talk openly with would be helpful too. If you have health insurance it may cover the cost of seeing a psychiatrist. If you don't have health insurance, see if your local family planning or walk-in clinic can give you the name of a counsellor that works on a sliding scale for payment.

Hang in there!
These are things lots of people have experienced. I think your main problem is how you feel about yourself. Self hate is really bad and you may have to get medication again. Having an abortion is hard to deal with especially when you would rather have not done it. Some decisions are made because there is no choice, so try not to let it concern you too much. In the last century and before people had to put up with these bad feelings, but now we have drugs and that is a good thing. Check it out with a professional and get some meds. Feeling good is something we all deserve.
