Answers:
Interesting question...I'm an addiction specialist...

Have you found yourself taking more and more to acheive the desired effects?
Have you tried to cut down or quit your use and couldn't?
Has people in your life told you you've had a problem with them?
Do you think you have a problem with them?
Has using them causes significant problems in your life? (ie stealing to get them, not taking them as prescribed, missing work, manipulating different dr.'s for them, legal problems, family problems?)

If you can answer yes to a couple of these questions, there may be some dependency there and worth going to a local drug and alcohol commission to get evaluted. Then let them decide. Maybe an outpatient can help you quit, maybe intensive outpatient, etc. Use rehab when you absolutely cannot quit on your own.
I don't think that rehab is necessary unless you are taking these pills without a prescription.

If you have a prescription, tell your doctor that you don't want to take them anymore and have him work out a way to wean you off of them. Don't just stop cold turkey. Its is best to go off of this type of medication with your doctor's supervision.
It all depends on how much you are taking, and HOW you are taking them. rehab. probably never hurts, but if you have been taking too many and/or for too long a time, and your rehab doctor is not an 'Ace' you could end up in trouble. Speaking from my own experience, i had been taking a prescribed 6 mg./day, and some days (you know, the 'bad' ones,) I would up that a bit, maybe7-9mg. My first rehab doctor tried to wean me off in 4 days, I had been taking them for 10 years, and even in my state, I knew that was not gonna do it.
He gave me a 'non addictive' anti-anxiety tablet, Bupropion, if memory... hah... serves. My daughters came to get me, they had fixed a place up where i could be watched, and I new i was in trouble on the ride back. My vision began to 'come and go,' as if I were taking long blinks. By the time we got to the house the dog took one look at me and started barking its fool head off, and within the hour, I had the first seizure of my life... back to the hospital, a Different one, and in 5 days, these people had me off. Brother, you could not get me to take another Xanax with a gun to my head. Sorry for the drugalogue, but it was necessary. Be VERY careful. Candy, they are not, but with the Proper medical intervention, you will come out the other end okay. It has been 5 years plus since I have touched one of the things. You have the internet, use it, and ask around for others who have been in your situation. It sucks, but it CAN be done.
I using Xanax(XR) for some time and I'm going usually to my psychyatric. I't depence of stadium of axyety, after 3 moths is better to stop using Xanax and replace with some other medication. You got visit your psychyatric and get advice from him. To manny using Xanax can make you addict to that medication, and results wont bi visible. Xanax is no candy, and he belongs i group of very serios medicatons.
