I am taking seroquel right now for bipolar, does anyone think this is good or works well?
Question:
Answers:
Actually, yes. Seroquel is a very effective mood stabilizer although it is classified as an anti-psychotic. It is effective for depression at 300 mg and for mania and psycosis at higher doses.
It does make you very tired, but if you take it at night, that should help.
In the mid 1990s, anti-psycotics were the first choice of medication for Bipolar disorder. So, drugs like Zyprexa and Seroquel were chosen.
It may make you gain weight and studies have shown that it may also increase blood sugar. Be careful about that.
I have been on Seroquel and Lithium (etc) for over 10 years, with some weight gain. I take it at night. It is great for sleep and calming my brain.
ya if you like feeling like a zombie
it will take a while to get ur body used to the medicine but seroquel is some pretty good stuff. alot of the clients where i work are on it for bipolar and it helps them!
yes it works/ NO IT DOESN'T!!! I'm taking it too. SO FAR I"M NOT SURE!! i sure hope so though.
It made me very, very tired and I didn't like it because of that, but everyone is different...perhaps you won't have that? Good luck!
It can work; however from my experience being on Seroquel and from working with clients that were on it, it seems to not be very effective in treating bipolar disorder. I have found that Abilify is much more effective in treating bipolar and has a lot less side effects. Additionally, it does not effect your metabolites, therefore, you are unlikely to experience weight gain.
Seroquel on the other hand, caused me to gain a tremendous amount of weight, despite the fact that I was eating very little. Additionally, it made me tired all the time and did nothing to help with my moods.
I suggest you talk to your doctor about treatment options.
It all depends on what dose. Anything used at 100mg or below will make you feel snowed and tired. Our doctors will prescribe at a lower dose for sleep, but it is one hell of an expensive sleeping drug. Most efficacy is obtained at 400 - 800mg for Bipolar.
i take 800mg in divided doses throughout the day. At first it made me real tired but i adjusted to that pretty quickly. Keeps me fairly level. Its not the strongest anti-psychotic available in terms of efficacy so it may not work as well as others in some people. But if your manic and you need sleep it does the trick.
good luck
