Question about Trazodone?

Question:
Ok a couple of months ago I was taking 50 mg of trazodone for sleep and mild depression. They helped me a lot with sleep but sometimes I felt light headed and loopy at work.
Then I quit cold turkey with no problem. So now I started taking them again last night for insomnia and I am feeling loopy again today. My question is. Do i have to take them everyday? Will that loopy feeling go away? I don't really consider myself to be depressed although I sure have my highs and lows. What about when i go out to the bars with my friends during the weekend? I can't take trazodone after having 5 cocktails can i? So does it matter if I skip some nights without taking it? Or should I just screw it and not take anything and try to get counseling? i jus know i have trouble sleeping and i have days that i feel miserable but overall i don't consider myself depressed. So any suggestions?

Answers:
Trazodone is an old medication that isn't generally prescribed anymore because of the lack of benefits and the potential for side-effects. I suggest you talk to your doctor about switching to a newer antidepressant. There are several that work much better and without the side-effects. Personally, for me Abilify and Zoloft have helped the most.

Best of Luck to You. Take Care.
Trazadone has been known to cause nightmares. I would leave it alone. Sorry, that's all I know. Best wishes.
traz did this to me also,,, ask your doc about ristoril,, works much better.
The first med I took was Trazodone! It did get me to sleep, but, ahhh, the night terrors weren't tons-o-fun! And I felt just totally DUH the next day. Like a human slug in a dream state, and not euphorically! I take Paxil, three med, no four med tries later. It works for MOI!
Well first off depression and sleep go hand and hand. You may be depressed because you are not sleeping OR you may be not sleeping because you are depressed. You need to figure which issue you are having before you can treat it. If you are concerned with sleep more than depression you could try some Benadryl at night just to help with sleep. Most drugs take a while to get stabilized into your system so the "loopy" feeling maybe your body trying to adjust. If it is unbearable ask your doc about something else. Drugs effect different people in different ways so just because Desryl (Trazodone) did not help you does not mean that something like Klonipin, Prozac, or Abilify may help with. As a side note drinking with any med can be dangerous, if not monitored, as it increases the effect of the drug. Wedmd.com is a great site for drug and medical information fi you want to research.
