Is it strange not to drink and smoke and not be a christian?
Question:
Answers:
I dont drink or smoke either, neither am I a christian. I just believe that this way I am taking better care of my body, which will lead me to live a possibly longer and happier life!
Go you!!
No, it's not strange! You do what you like.
No you go for it. If you don't want to smoke or drink you don't have to! You have made the healthier choice!
Nothing abnormal about it.
Don't worry.
Being a Christian is nothing to do with drinking or smoking, although the religion frowns upon both of these activites.
It up to you, I abstained from alcohol for ages and smoke only when I'm wasted - and then, I don't actually inhale. Still not doing me any good though.
Look up Christianity - its a way of life, a religion, a God, if you believe such things. Its not just an evening-out.
well you do not follow the rest them idiots that smoke & drink tons. its best to be your self.
When you think about it, drinking alcohol and smoking tobacco are very unnatural things to do. So you shouldn't feel awkward. It's peer pressure that pushes us into indulging in these pursuits! Having said that, I do enjoy a drink and the odd cigar!
I don't drink or smoke and I don't believe in clap trap like religion and spirituality.
It's other people's ignorance you are experiencing. Why do you have to justify your lifestyle to them?
I do it, but I don't see what Christianity has to do with anything- just be true to yourself, and in the end, people will respect you for being genuine... if people act 'wierded out' by the way you act, that's not your fault, it's them coping with things in a childish way. Rise above it.
nope... religion doesnt matter at all. its what u believe in that matters..
There is nothing strange about it whatsoever and I have no idea why christianity should come into it too.
I don't smoke and barely drink, last drank alcohol three months ago and I'm certainly no christian!
not being a christian isnt strange BEING a christain is strange.
No offence ppl.
Religion is a man made philospohy and quite frankly controls free spirit and thinking. Cigarettes and alchohol are also man made subtances. The body on the other hand is a fantastic creation by nature so avoiding these man made body damaging substances is a natural thing. So enjoy your body, life and don't feel hampered about anything especially what other people think and believe.
no, there is nothing strange about it, you are just choosing to take good care of you body and so you will live a healthy life.
nope, completely normal, its all up to personal choice
I don't drink... well... unless you call an odd glass of wine about once in every couple of months in company at dinner drinking. I've never been drunk...
I smoke between eight and ten cigarettes a day... I quit a few times during pregnancies and for six years once... but smoking is my only vice and pleasure inside what has been a seriously stressful life through family experiences.
I am a Christian... I don't judge how other people live... Christ turned water into wine for a wedding celebration... I'm sure he shared the fruit of the vine then... even though he has sworn not to in heaven... until His return to earth to claim His own... since the last supper.
I'm also sure He wasn't a drunk... and didn't stand in judgement on those who made merry now and then.
Neither do I... even though my first husband died of alcohol abuse aged 41... since I believe a little of what you fancy is harmless... over indulgence is the sin!
I don't talk about being a Christian... but people always say "I knew there was something different about you" when they find out I am... but I never try to convert... that's God's job.
I don't choose not to go to pubs and clubs and bars because I am a Christian... they just are not my scene and never were.
And sadly... if I went today... the smell of beer and drinks reminds me of the violence that I suffered at my late first husband's hands when he was drunk... so my reasons are not religious at all.
Christians use wine for the communion service... so I'd be surprised if anyone assumed all Christians were abstainers!
Why do you feel the need to justify not liking either of these things and why compare it to a Christian at all?
I know loads of teatotal people... who don't smoke... and all of them are atheists as well... in fact... most of my friends are!
Only one refers to my Christianity... when he's swearing in God's name... "Oops... sorry J... I forgot..." and though I know god couldn't care less... that He judges actions towards others and not silly things we say... I'm defensive of his name... it is decidedly one thing my Christian hackles rise against... the use of Christ's and God's names as swear words in every single film and programme on the box!
If not being Christian and yet still being a good person worries you... maybe He is calling you out... that still small voice is beckoning and you are ignoring it?
Try listening;-)
no edit... scuse spelling mistakes
It's probably more the not drinking than the not smoking.
When you say that you don't drink, people often question why.
Usual reasons include religion (Islam, for example, forbids it), some terrible experience with alcohol (such as having an alcoholic in the family, or seeing a friend being hurt because of it), or because you are a recovering alcoholic yourself.
People are likely being weird because they are wondering which of the above categorize you fit into. It's human nature.
It sounds like wisdom to me...to not smoke or drink and I'm sure you have a reason for doing so. It really has nothing to do with Christianiy although alot of them would judge you for it, even thought the Bible doesn't say don't smoke and drink.People like to say it does in one way or another. As it relates to religion...it should be an issue of personal spiritual conviction.not blindly following rules that don't really exist...even jesus didn't like the pompous Christians that liked to spout rules, judgement and act superiour to others..but that is the difference in religion and spirituality...and having a relationship with God for those that believe.
Non of which has anyting to do with drink and smoke. Who ever relates the two is off base.and to assume one is Christian because they don't smoke or drink.is comical and sad. Whoever is weirded out about it needs to mind their own business.and get the facts, and find out how misguided they are. And you shouldn't care what anybody thinks.for doing the wise thing. You obviously have more wisdom and knowlege than they do
Not at all you just want to take care of your body.

Dear Ashley, I am 67 years old and have never smoked or drank alcohol other than tasting them. My first cig' made me feel sick. The taste of beer and shorts I did not like and did not persist in trying to make myself like them just to suit convention. Having said that do not let it stop you going out and enjoying yourself, but be carefull some socalled friends will try to spike your drink thinking it is fun. I am a christian
in as much that all human life had to be created by some greater intelect than we yet know. Have a good life.
There's no need to have an excuse not to do these things. I think you are a strong person for not relying on these things to make you happy.
don't worry I'm the same
i don't smoke
but all my mates do and so does my boyfriend
some times i feel left out
but i don't let it bother me
and i don't drink and my mates drink on the streets
and i don't think its safe
but besides that i just don't
and im a nothing
I've not been christened yet or anything
so u know your not the only one
if there looking at you weird
just tell them you don't want to
if they don't understand there not good friends
good luck ..x
i dont have any religious beliefs but i dont drink, smoke, take drugs, sleep around, i just do what i like to do, dont do what i dont want to do because those are my choices, nothing to do with religion.
Nahhh! You're sensible. I'm not Christian (or, in fact, any organised religion, although I was raised Jewish), and I don't smoke and barely drink (but NEVER to excess). You're just taking good care of your body. That's a plenty good reason!
I also am not Christian and don't drink or smoke because it's not healthy. Alcohol is poison - literally. It's Nature's way of telling us something has gone bad (grapes or oats and barely or whatever the alcohol's made from). It's why our livers get damaged by drinking - livers filter toxins out of the body. It makes you sick if you drink too much because your body doesn't want it. Drinking alcohol makes no sense! Smoking is just as lame. Our lungs are really important - why would i want to clog mine up with tar and crap? Duh. I also don't eat artificial sweeteners, don't use beauty products with chemicals in them, and avoid a lot of other things that don't make sense to me (like, ahem, animal products).
I must say that A LOT of people, when my husband or I refuse a beer or other drink, ask if we're Christian or if we're recovering or something. we go to a lot of places where drinking is allowed and it seems that almost EVERYONE has a beer at these places. Alcohol is normal. People being stupid and not caring about their health IS normal. Sad, but true.
We are definitely in the minority.
no. both smell DISCUSTING
Congratulations for putting this in a different category Ashley... I'm so proud of you! :o)
