Stress and mood swings?

Question:
I am a full time college student who also works as an inside sales rep. I recently dealt with the breakup with my girlfriend of 4 years, and it was a very rocky relationship. I should also add that I am still having a mildy difficult time with it, and I still miss her sometimes. And it makes a little more difficult because she moved on quickly and now has a boyfriend. Anyways, to my real question, I have been feeling quite a bit of stress for the past few months along with some mood swings. Are these mood swings related to stress?

I dont think I have bipolar: I sleep well at night, I dont have real bad depression, I dont drink or do any drugs. I always get along with people, and other say I am great to be around, and I dont get myself into any trouble.

I guess the real problem is that sometimes I have the motivation to do anything, and sometimes I feel as if I dont have much motivation.

Answers:
Sounds like to me you’re a rational person and you have your thoughts together. Sounds like you’re still hung up on the girl. The sooner you get over her the sooner the “new girl” will come into your life. You even stated that the relationship with her was “rocky,” therefore, it’s best that y’all have parted ways. Four years in a long time and most relationship go from good to bad. In another words, it probably wasn’t going to get any better. Be happy there is no alimony and child support. Open your eyes and I bet you’ll find the lady of your dreams right around the corner.
It is healthy to grieve over the loss of a relationship. Allow yourself some time to do this. In time it will seem less hurtful.

Stress is a normal part of life as are changes in your mood.
The same happens with motivation. Your really gung-ho one day and then not so the next.

If you know what you want and know your goal then just remind yourself once in while. Your motivation will soon return.

It sounds to me that you have friends to turn to, you have your life under control.
Keep it up!

You sound quit normal to me. She doesn't. When you break up, the emotions are high, and you are clear why you are doing it. Afterwards, the emotions calm down and the reasons are not as clear. Even though you have reasons to end a relationship, there were obvious good things, too. You should be missing them! And, you should be worried about whether you will ever find those good things in your next relationship. It's a difficult time you are going through. Believe me! It's normal and it's not a mental disease.

On the other hand, she quickly goes into another relationship. She probably doesn't take it very seriously... and probably wasn't serious about you. So, she can't experience mood swings like you are.

Believe me, you'll get through this. Get used to it! Either you get locked into bad relationships, or you learn to end bad relationships. It's your decision.

Good luck
