Fear of people living in my basement?
Question:

It happens to a lot of people. It is just that you are afraid of what you don't know and the only way to get over it is to force yourself to rationalize it and check for a couple of nights. Have someone do it with you if you need it, but try to do it yourself and think "it has never happened before, and it won't happen this time."
Dear you watch to many movies.
idk. but a .38 snub would help.
(or just buy an airsoft gun and paint the tip black.)
(it's normal to be scared about stuff like that. maybe not too much, but having a "security device" in your hands will make you feel better.)
I had that too when i was around 14 or 15 with my dads office, it as the perfect place to get ambushed. You'll get over it. Trust me. If it helps, just don't go down there, or spend more time down there.
it could be because an event in your past caused your fear. for example, if someone jumped out and scared you in a place similar to a basement, and it is something you didn't enjoy very much so your brain doesnt want it to happen again.
or maybe you have heard about events like this and you don't want it to happen to you.
It sounds like you are living in a Stephen King novel. Do you also believe in the boogy man? Everyone has a fear, and to beat it you must face it. Keep going down into your basement and eventually you will hopefully get over it.
holy crap! I'm scared of the same thing except not as extreme. a little tip that i always do is number 1, bring a broom or long and hard object (such as a stick or even better my dog), number 2, sing as loud as i can, and number 3, run as fast as i can up the stairs.
You're probably getting your phobia from either scary movies or a bad dream you may have had as a child that is coming back to you. Its okay to be a little freaked out but you don't have to be trembling with fear. Maybe try to get to know the people who live in your basement that will probably make you feel more confident and secure about going down there.
Hypnotherapy is probably one of the best ways to cure a phobia.
Your phobia has probably got a name, have a look at this list of phobias
