If your doctor indicates you may have a mental health condition ask him for a referral to a good therapist. You should not be being treated with medication alone.
Try therapy while you are adjusting to the medication. That wasn't fair of your doctor not to refer you to a good source.
Personally I think there is nothing to do but accept it as what you think. Then find things you like. Maybe you like drawing, or working out etc.. I'm guessing there is something.. for me I like making music, and exercising.

You're at that time in your life when you're not a kid anymore and now you have adult responsibilities. Its not easy! It takes a courageous and strong person to come to realize that there's something different/wrong/whatever in his/her life and wanting to do something about it. You're heading in the right direction.
I'm not sure what your stress is or what exactly is going on in your life. If your job is stressing you, figure out why and try to fix it or change your job. You need to love what you do- your job shouldn't be work, you know? Sometimes it is- that's life. But you must have a passion for something- running, skateboarding, travel, find that passion and tap into it.
I know I must sound a bit hokey, I'm sorry. Just trying to help out. Don't give up hope, ok? And shaved heads are attractive, just so you know... ;-)
Its great that you've seen a doctor and discussed how you feel. You need to see a therapist or phycologist for relaxion techniques and to have a chat about life in general. Go for it. Your on the right track. Im in exactly the same position as you
