Is any other woman going through a midlife crisis?

Question:
I am 55, and having such a hard time accepting being one of the "invisible people". I feel old, fat, and I'm nervous and hateful. Is anyone else out there??

Answers:
Empty-nester? Now it's your time after looking after everyone else - take care of you. Get involved in the community maybe volunteering. Go and spoil yourself and get that thing you always wanted. Take up some study or painting/photography. Yes it's true about being invisible as you get older - you have to reevaluate everything but you're not alone. It's a sad fact that older women are not valued. This is your time to value yourself. Take care.
There are many. Do what my mom did. She started walking daily, increased communication with neighbors and started organizing outings with them and she is living for herself now. We even have to get an appointment from her to look after her grandchild. I just wish I will have her energy when I am her age.
i'm 51 and just went through it and came the other side and am doing much better now except for the hot flashes that i still get occassionally. ifelt just like you do. you need to stake stock of yourself. this is a really good time to make some changes to yourself. a new hairdo, a treatment at a local womens spa, maybe a few new out fits, new make up ,not too heavy but a little blush a light shade of lipstick, a light shade of eye shadow. a massage. anything that makes you feel better about yourself. you are not invisible. we women in our 50's haven't even come close to reaching the top of the hill of old age. we're just reaching the interesting point in our climbing the hill. see if your husband ,if you have one can be a little more supportive of you. if you are not married see if you can find a male companion, maybe someone from churh or synogogue or a singles group. if your are married or have a significant other try to get involved in groups that involve both of you. for example... square dancing. there's any number of things out thre that can help you to get through this time of your life. but i promise you that you will get through it. GOD's BLESSINGS upon you.
Yes I know what you mean. I am 51, but since 50 things have just gone to hell in a hand basket. I feel useless, unattractive, definitely not sexy, just old. I'm not even a grandma but I sure feel like one. I can't find anything to interest me and believe me I am trying. I'm alone most of the day and that seems to make it worse but I don't have any friends close by or family, I'm married but I don't know how interested he is in me anymore, my son is in the Army in Baghdad, so yeah I do feel like I am having a midlife crisis. If you find something to help you please let me know and I will try it. Also if you want to "talk" you can find my email under my profile. We both just gotta hang in there and pray for better days.
There are some pretty good answers,
I am not going to list any because it has already been stated above, LOL from people, so it will be just like re reading comments. I just want to say their are many people that feel like you, whether their younger or older or the same age.
I am happy that you can admit your problems.
I hope your life get better. Praying has always helped for me.
I'm 48 and going thru perimenopause and I already have meds for depression/anxiety...which do help by the way. But somedays, I just feel nuttier than a fruitcake! Sound familiar? With our hormones goin' amok, we need mother's little helper. I take Paxil, so it keeps my nerviousness at bay and my depression short and sweet. Your not old by any means. I got my first tatoo 9 years ago, my nose pierced a couple years ago, my belly button pierced 6 mos. ago, and I'm thinking about changin' these tiny tot titties into perky C's. I'm not trying to be a teen again. I love being a gramma and having the kids up and out. Time to start letting yourself be the liberated woman you are! Go get some Paxil, or antidepressent that works for you. Screw what Tom Cruise says about it! He never was a middle-aged hormonal woman!
