Getting off effexor xr to wellbutrin or celexa?

Question:
I have to stop taking effexor xr since my insurance wont pay for it. I am going to the doctor tomorrow to get a new med my insurance will pay... my choices are wellburtin, celexa or prozac. There are others but I have tried them before and wont' got back. As anyone changed from effexor to wellbutrin?

Answers:
Prozac is very efective and cheaper than the others.
Effexor to Wellbutrin is a fairly smooth transition. You may want to research generic versions and what they cost if you like Effexor and want to stay on it. Also if you go to your local Mental Health Center you can often get your meds for free or at a discount in an effort to keep you on the meds you need. I found the Effexor made me giddy. Wellbutrin tends to make me a bit wired and anxious. So my doctor also has me on Zoloft to counter the anxiety. All the meds that have been around a while are available in generic forms and often aren't that expensive in generic form.
My own experience - when I stopped taking Effexor, my doctor did not instruct me to taper off it so I quit it cold turkey. The Wellbutrin was started at a low dose. I had very bad vertigo and suicidal thoughts. It took a few days for me to realize it must have to do with the meds because I was feeling SO bad. After seeing my doc, I tapered off for about 3 weeks, I was OK. I don't know if other people have had this problem, but it was miserable for me, so I thought I would let you know. Now taking Wellbutrin and Lexapro...good at first but not as much now...
