Where can you get reduced or free mental health help in Ohio?

Question:
I need help desperately. I had a extremely traumatic event happen about 6 years ago in my life that led to counseling which led to a diagnosis of possible bi-polar disorder. Ok since then I lost my insurance and am not qualified for medicaid. I was on 2 medications that helped me significantly and have been forced to quit the meds because they are too expensive and have not been able to remain in counseling either. Where I live in Ohio there is no such thing as free medical or mental health help and I have been off the meds for over a year and have had a severe set back and am now experiencing severe insomnia. Anybody out there with an answer? I cannot afford insurance and would not be able to spare any type of money on medication or doctor visits and because mental health care is just outrageous...counseling is out of the question. Thanks

Answers:
Contact your county's social services department. You can email me with your county if you can't figure it our
Contact your local Health Department. They should be able to refer you to someplace that does counseling on a sliding scale basis.
In Ohio they have a program called Title X which gives free counseling to minors under the age of 18. Under the agreement of Title X the children can refuse to inform guardians of counseling and the counselor can't inform the parents that the child is recieving counseling. I hope this helps. It's best to see your local mental health clinic. Good Luck.
I don't have experience in Ohio, but I would call the Therapist Referral Network. They are endorsed by "Mental Health America" and are a good way to find reputable support.

Therapist Referral Network (TRN)
800/843-7274 or 858/481-1515
Referrals to treatment professionals in private practice. Call is automatically routed to TRN office closest to caller’s area.
