Paxil and its Side Effects?
Question:
I have cottom mouth and then insomnia at night, yet it makes me drowsy and dizzy during the day. Its only 10 in the morning and i cant stop yawning!
this is my first week taking this medicine. I informed my doctor of my side effects and he said to keep on them and he perscribed me a sleep aid. So my question is, will these side effects wear off or will i just get used to them? Im having a HORRIBLE time functioning regularly. I know with alot of these meds there is a "hump" that you have to get over, and then the side affects are gone completely... so when the hello will i reach that hump! Im this close to stopping this medicine cuz this is just crazy! i cant fuction!!

Absolutely stay with it! The side effects you are experiencing will decrease very soon (any time now), and then all of a sudden you will notice they are just gone. It is about the 3 week mark they are gone, and you are feeling the beneficial affect of the medicine.
I didn't know there even was a generic for paxcil! Try taking it for like 2 or 3 weeks and if it doesn't get better contact your doctor about a different medicine.
Generally 2-3 weeks for the side effects to subside. I have been on and off of Paxil and others like it for the last 5 yrs. I struggle with taking the pills long term. They do work though.
Not to scare you but if you think the side effects are bad when you start taking them Do Not stop taking them cold turkey - thet will really have your head spinning.
All of the antidepresants have side effects. You are correct in having to get over the "hump" of Paxil.
My doctor originally prescribed Paxil and started it at too high of a dose so I told him no more.
I am on Prozac, and when I begin that I have side effects (cold all the time is the main one).
I can promise these side effects will go away soon.
Hang in there the good these meds do, outweigh the bad.
The "side effects" that you are describing are relatively common in a large percentage of the patient population. Generally patients who complain about the feelings that you are getting, find that these diminish over a few weeks. You need to give time to reach the therapeutic dose. If, after several weeks you do not feel that the symptoms have abated tell your doctor. At that point in time the two of you can make a decision as to whether or not this medication is appropriate for you or needs to be changed. I am pretty certain that you will find the symptoms clear up in a short time and you will be over the "hump" best wishes
Paxil wont make you numb. Give it 2 -3 weeks and the side effect will go away and you will feel better without noticing anything different. Drugs like these do not cause you to be numb but instead react with the chemicals in your brain to level you out. I take 50 mg of Paxil and function perfectly fine. Once your body gets use to the drug in your system, increases in dosage have little if any side effects.
