Anyone else have nausea from taking lithium?

Question:
i am on 1200mg of lithium to treat my bipolar disorder, but when i take it, i get very nauseated. does anyone else have this problem? and how can i help it?

Answers:
Hey. When I first started on Lithium I had nausea and diarrhea. Here are a couple suggestions to help:

1) Make sure that you eat when taking your lithium. Not just a snake, but a full meal.
2) Divide your lithium doses up throughout the day, instead of taking it all at once.
3) Ask your doctor if you can take Lithium (Eskalith) ER - the extended release version. (This helped the most!)

Also, the nausea might go away on its own after awhile.
Good luck.
I'm pretty sure that this can be a side effect for most depression/anxiety/Bipolar/ocd... If you've just started taking it, it will probably subside after about a month at the most. Try eating dry toast in the morning before taking it or even gravol...Vitamen B works well for nausea as well.
If i were you, i will talk to your docyoe. Since lithium is a salt like sodium, it can make you dehydrated, which can cause nausea. But while on lithium you need to closely monitor your sodium (salt) and fluid intake so that you have steady level of lithium in your body. Why don't you call your health care provider or your pharmacy?
