I've been diagnosed with depression...?

Question:
But I don't want to take the conventional medicine, I want to try something homeopathic. Does anyone know anything about that? A name of a homeopathic medication for depression?
I'm 43yrs old.
Thank you,

You need to investigate the differences between clinical and chemical depression. You can holistic yourself silly, but you need to know what you are dealing with to do right by yourself.

I survived depression for 20 years plus, before it was clearly diagnosed as chemical depression. I didn't want to believe it, but was finally coached to try medication by my therapist and doctor. They were a very helpful team, and slowly but surely, with their support I became healthier and more knowledgeable of myself.

The best therapy I received was Cognitive Therapy, and my meds include vitamin B12, Paxil and Seroquel. I also exercise, and volunteer in the community.

Just make sure you do not mix your remedies without checking in with your pharmacist. Sometimes mixing homeopath remedies can cause illness rather than cure, as is the same for prescribed medications.
everyone gets diagonosed with depression
St Johns Wort is what you can try.
I've heard Omega 3,6,9 (fish oils) are good and St. John's Wort.
try hatha and pranayama yoga
Get exersizing and do some active social working - or charity work where you can see that there's a lot of other problems out there than those which cloud you own world.
That's something you really should discuss with the professional who diagnosed your depression.

Just Googling a homeopathic medicine for depression gave me the following link if you care to check it out.
Um, hemeopathic drugs are less potent and safer right? What is the reason that you don't want the conventional meds? You might just try seeing a therapist. Therapy or counseling has been shown to be most effective in overcoming depression.
you can do a websearch on HOMEOPATHIC MEDS FOR DEPRESSION?

and welcome to the club! i've been depressed for ages!

take care!
You should go to a Wellness Center - they would be able to help you. Check out the website below:

Try deep meditation and letting of all burdens then move on.
serious depression strictly needs medication along with good counselling and pranic yoga...u better go for homeopathic medicine...coz i took medication for 3 yrs in alopathy...and had amny side effects from them...n still not yet cure...right now im taking gud counselling...and pranic yoga...u can better try Ayurvedic medicine...but counselling really helps u...finally one thing i would like to say is.depression can be completely cured only when we show 100% intrest in the treatment.god bless u..
It seems like everyone is being diagnosed with depression anymore. I've tried the meds but exercise seems to help me more than anything. It was hard to get started but once I got into working out its been great and excellent for relieving stress also.
Dear Maricota...good luck. I tried everything that is available. I researched and tried things that could be considered rather exotic from around the world. While I was playing this game of mental russian roulette and wasting money I was getting worse and worse. If anyone asked me why I would not take conventional medicine for my depression I would simply answer that I felt I was smart enough to beat it on my own. Well.guess what...intelligence has nothing to do with it. It is the same as saying you have diabetes and are insulin dependant but you are not going to take insulin. Instead you are going to try a "natural" approach. Depression is the result of organic brain chemistry. It is the same as any other disease and no matter what anyone says, there are VERY few people who can beat it without medication. best wishes
you might try reading a book called, "the power of now" by eckhart tolle. the title may sound kind of corny to you but there is some really good information inside about learning how to quiet your mind's endless chatter and live in the now rather than in constant worry/stress over the past or the future which cause depression. if you really keep your mind open to what he's suggesting you might be able to get yourself to the point where you can deal with it without medication period. although i do have a friend taking st. john's wort for her depression. http://nccam.nih.gov/health/stjohnswort/...
St John's wort is sometimes used for depression. In this country these products are not FDA regulated so you need to be careful. Check with your doctor or pharmacist before using it or before using it while on other medications.

Therapy can also be useful for some people with depression.
I don't know of anything from personal experience, but I hear that St. John's Wort is widely used in Europe to treat depression. Also, fish oil and vitamin B were recommended to me when I was dealing with some postpartum issues. You surely want to talk to a professional before taking something, though. Perhaps you can talk to a naturopath if your doctor is only practicing traditional Western medicine. I hope you find the right thing that works for you. Take care.
St. John's Wort supposedly helps with that.

Increase your omega-3 intake by eating more fish, nuts, avocados, enriched omega-3 pastas from Barilla, and gel caps of either flax seed oil or fish oil.

And start exercising. Humans derive a sense of well being and happiness from physical exertion. Hunting, gathering, farming, etc. is rewarded in the brain to ensure the survival of the species.

But in this day and age, our lives are terribly easy. We work, but it's usually not physical labor. Gathering and hunting comes from the grocery store. We drive cars instead of having to walk and run. Hell, we even put volume controls on the steering wheel so we don't have to reach the 18 inches to the radio.

My point is we rarely do the physical exertion that's been hardwired into our brains from our early existence.

This is a big factor in the number of people with depression and other mental issues in our society.

Ever seen or heard about people in Africa with depression problems? Me either.
St. John's Wort is for mild depression, 5-htp, SAMe

Hope this helps
A friend of mine uses St. John's Wort and said that it's really helped to even out her mood swings, so you may want to try that.

Also, read "Feeling Good" by Dr. David Burns, it's a cognitive therapy book that can be used, along with counselling, to help you recognize the symptoms (ie- the negitive feelings) and how to take control of them. I used this book a couple of years ago and it helped me to overcome my depression.

If you can, check out the book "Boundaries" by Doctors Henry Cloud and John Townsend. Strangely enough, this book helped me out a great deal.
Be careful when taking St. John's Wort. It reacts with other prescription drugs in bad ways that can kill you. Homeopathic herbs are still drugs and there is no way to know exactly what dose you are taking because there are no government standards for the stuff.
Try the alternative treatments, at http://www.ezy-build.net. (.net.nz/~shaneris) on page 2. Homeopathic medications are too dilute, but try them first, if you want (PLACEBO EFFECT!).
OK, I want to try & analyze this.
Homeopathy: A system for treating disease based on the administration of minute doses of a drug or substance that in massive amounts produces symptoms in healthy individuals similar to those of the disease itself.

So to treat depression homeopathically would mean you would take tiny doses of something that would, if administered in large doses to non-depressed people, bring about depression?

So, does that mean 1 shot glass of bourbon (alcohol is a depressive agent)? Or watch 10 minutes of a Lars von Trier film? Join a Texas Rangers World Series Victory club?

I don't understand.
Natrol 5-HTP.
