You are describing fears to things that could happen. They are indeed possible, however, you really should talk to a professional about putting these fears in the proper context. Everyone has fears but when these fears begin to interfere with your normal, everyday activities, and sleeping is included, it's time to talk to someone and learn coping skills to deal with these fears. You should be very careful to not allow these fears to overwhelm you because they can seriously and negatively impact your ability to function if you allow them to go too far. Please seek help from a qualified professional as soon as possible.
whatever you do, don't watch "A nightmare on ElmStreet'.;)
How about putting in a comedy movie and falling asleep to it?

My husband is a firefighter and is often away during the night. Sometimes I get scared as well. What I do is make sure the doors and windows are all locked, sleep with a fan on to drown out "house noises", and then take Tylenol PM. I go to sleep within 20 minutes every time.
you could try falling asleep to a funny movie, or reading a good book to get your mind off being scared, thats what i do. keep a knife by your bedside too if you want, just to make you feel safer
reading helps .. romance novels ..
