What's a good way of calming an overactive mind?
Question:
Answers:
Lay on your back, in the grass, on a hammock, whatever, outdoors where you can see the sky. Stair straight up at the sky. Count to yourself,(not out loud), "20 calm, soothing calm . . . 19 calm, soothing calm . . ." go all the way to zero.should you lose count, not to worry, start over. When you get to zero, you will feel as refreshed as a long peaceful nap.
It's because you get your sense of self from thinking.
Put your attention on silent awareness.
That is what you are.
In response to an answer below, overactive minds are insane minds.
Mess,
From the way you stated it (and I agree with your thoughts), an overactive mind is not a bad thing. So instead of trying to stop being overactive, try applying the activity to more purposeful en devours.
For example, try inventing something. Constantly analyze that invention in your mind: who will use it, how might they break it, what could go wrong, etc. If you find yourself worrying about a situation too much, take a breath and go back to thinking about your invention.
Essentially, create a state of mind for yourself where your over activity is most useful. Here, your mind is free to be overactive and will actually benefit from it. Return to this state whenever you find yourself reaching that edge of over-analyzation.
Who knows, you may even invent something fantastic that helps humatinty or just makes you plain rich!
I am the same way...but it effects my ability to work.as I have been discharged from my last three jobs! My mind is constantly churning away...and distracting me. It has made my life miserable and I can't seem to hold a job. I am also Bipolar...which doesn't help me either...because I go deep in depression or high to anger...I know how frustrating it is.
I am seeing a counselor...and she is going to start teaching me...thought stopping...I doubt it will work.I am going to see if I can find anything on the internet about it.
