Why are we sometimes afraid of harmless things, eg. House Spiders?

Question:

Answers:
simply being afraid of spiders or anything like that is a phobic disorder
in your case and many others this is called Arachnaphobia (the fear of spiders) other commen phobic disorders are claustrohobia ( closed in spaces )
agraphobia ( fear of open spcaces)
all these and appproximately a thousand others genarally ending with the letters bia are a phobic disorder.

these are so variable and can be to you the sufferer the most frightnening thing on earth that leads you intoa state of panic attacks if you see one be it for real or in a magazine or on the tv etc
the fears are pretty much irrirational ones in the uk espeiclly thoise of the fear of snakes, spiders, etc as in reality their are no life threatning killers
accept when they are lost by people who keep them as pets and loose them

however claustophobia agrophobia etc are much more common as these are real daily threats

BUT REMBER ARACHNAPHOBIAs as harmfull to those who have it as to those who have the ones above as an example
you need to look back at things in your life and see if and when you can pin point a date place where you suddenly developed this irrirational fear
was it a big sister/brother tormententing you
or parents come to that friends
and then
derationalise the phobia a scale of 1 to 10 so sit and look at a picture of a spider for as long as possible and think how many points are you on the scale and slowly increase this until you are in control of the situation
many PHOBIA are pretty much unfounded and unknown but such things like Arachnaphobia are far more common in countries that have the deadly ones

i know many x fire fighters who have become claustrophobic after being in the fire service for decades or more and it suddenly hits them i am x royal navy and suddenly became claustrophobic afet 16 years and i served on subs to
derationalise the problem and you will soon be on the way to recovery that goes for any phobia
i know i did i can go in lifts now and underground trains
good luck
Because occasionally you get a venomous spider that arrived in a crate of bananas.
for me its not so much the sight of them its how fast they can move and the thought of that tickly feeling if one crawls over you eurgh!
I don't know I mean I am really scared of spiders and really they're just the same as butterflys, but butterflys look prettier. Myabe it's just the way they look, the way they move and that in films etc. they come out in a bad evil way which influences us.
Sometimes its a built in response from when we lived in the wild spiders would be dangerous to us!
Its learnt behaivour sometimes as well you see you mommy afraid of a spider and you learn to be or you here the little miss muffet storied with a scary spider e.c.t
idk but omg i always have to have my dad kill it maybe they look different and weird with there big scary legs. Once i was taking a shower at my old house and i was washing my hair when i opened my eyes there was one right there omg i freaked out i my dad said he has never heard someone scream so loud
I used to be terrified of spiders, don't know why? don't know what ? but now I love to sit and just watch them I call them my little 'freddies' all the family now call them 'freds' - yes I can be strange!!!
Because a lot of things that look scary, are scary.Spiders can be good or bad, depending upon the type.I am not going to take time to see if it is good or bad most times.I am going to smack a possibly dangerous thing.
A black widow or a brown recluse spider can do things to you that are inexplicable. You may live, you may die;you may have to have necrotic tissue excised--the spider won't care.
They are a potential danger to everyone in the house, not just me.
