Is it possible to become mentally ill from the people you surround yourself with?
Question:
do you think that working in this atmosphere and surrounding yourself with mentally ill people could be having an effect on me?
Answers:
Sure!
They talk about "maintaining therapeutic distance" but the people who do aren't doing their clients any good, and the ones that don't, end up getting sicker as their patients get better.
I doubt you need medications. You need a sabatical. Even doing the same thing for a different group of patients will help for a while. Switching to a different *type* of patient is even better. What's ideal, though, is finding a job for a while that doesn't tax your emotional reservoir.
A friend of mine works in the locked ward for two years, than goes down to the hospital cafeteria and bakes pies for a year, than goes back to the locked ward. Works wonderfully both for her and for the hospital.
I would think so especially if you do not have the clinical knowledge to put it in perspective.
Paranoia
My psychiatrist is advanced in years and very healthy.
I think the problem is caused by something good, I think it is because you care. Try to be more clinical and unattached maybe and it might help you some because no matter how hard you want to save us it isn't possible to save everyone because some people are suffering from things we don't even understand and that there is no treatment for.
Yes, it is, no doubt about it. Law of Attraction. To work in that place you can't be at all worried about your own state of mind or comparing yourself to them. You either need to become detached from their issues and believe that you are getting better or find a new job.
