Cymbalta and weight gain?
Question:
Answers:
Unfortunately this can be a side effect of some antidepressants. Weight gain can happen. It is not you but the medication. The reason is did not happen with Prozac is due to the medication's
half life. It has a short half life. Some antidepressants are prone to weight gain. Often with medications, especially psychiatric medications the reality becomes weighing the good against the bad. Consider the gain (no pun intended) of the medication. Does the positive outweigh the negative? This is perhaps not stated well on my part but I think you get the picture. IF the weight gain is really too much, regardless of whatever emotional positives you gained then switch medications. Discuss this with you prescribing practitioner.
You are definitely not alone.
I actually had the opposite reaction when I began taking Cymbalta. I lost weight.
But - I recently weened off of it and I have gained a ton of weight. So maybe it depends on how your body reacts to the medication.
That really sucks though, you should tell your doctor about it and I'm sure there is something that can be done.
I've heard a lot about Cymbalta making people gain more weight, but currently I'm on a different one, which just got lowered so I feel like there is a cloud stuffed into my head.
