How do you handle anxiety when you're overwhelmed?

Question:
I've got a lot going on right now; work (2 jobs - 1 as a reporter, 1 as a special assignments writer- both with deadlines creeping up) finals are approaching, and with them come end of the term projects. How do I keep my sanity amidst all this work ahead of me? I'm truly freaking out. My heart is beating fast and my mind can't stay focused on just one thing. How can I calm down before I go into cardiac arrest?

Answers:
By getting on with it and not dwelling on it My daughter was doing her PhD and working as a research assistant to two professors and had the same problem. It was not the profs headache that she had term exams coming up or had to meet a deadline with her project report. They had deadlines that minted money for them and she had better snap to it. The only way she coped was by getting on with it. working on different projects gave her brain cells time to recover from the stress of one problem that had either stalled or the brain was saturated with it while she tackled another. This way she approached every project with a fresher mind which made it easier and more interesting. Also when you let your brain mull over a problem on the quiet while you use another more immediate part to work on something else the subconscious keeps working on the problem and comes up with an answer faster than when it is being harassed. Good luck..
Take a breather from everything even if you just take a short walk outside, forget about all that you have to do just for a few moments and reenergize. Then once you feel better go back and take a go getter approach. Figure out what needs to be tackled first. Obviously your jobs are first but you should prioritize these things in order to better grip them.
Only by accepting the way things are. this is the answer I keep giving. it seems many don't know the power of a Yes, rather than a No, to what is.
Stress can often be overwhelming and there are many ways to deal with it. The first of which is simply take a deep breath, write down everything that's bothering you each problem on a separate piece of paper. This will help you prioritize what is on your mind. Then for each problem write down ways you could solve/help or avoid the problem. By doing this you're acknowledging the issues in your life but also trying to find a way to deal with them.

Sometimes a problem can seem really big until you look at it in black and white. Find a friend who can help you work through things with you and bounce ideas off. And at the end of the day as silly as it sounds put all of the papers in a folder and promise yourself you won't worry about it until the next day. You'll find that as you work through each problem there is a satisfaction in being able to throw away a problem/paper.
