Diphenhydramine (i.e., generic benedryl).

sleeping pill you can buy off the shelves in the stores a small dose can do the trick but you have to take it early in the evenings so you can wake up in the morning and function
You've become so stressed that you've become an insomniac!! My brother has the same problem. He recently graduated high school and he hasn't been able to sleep very well for a long time... he's hasn't been able to sleep at will seince middle school. I would sugest trying to relax/ find a relaxing activity to do to see if that might help. A hobby you reall enjoy. Such as, making jewlery or playing an instrument. It helps a lot. It's how my parents help relax.
Talk to your MD about Ambien - or Lunesta they will suggest the best thing - try a over the counter sleep aid when I was 22 and working 12 hours a day as a nurse I took them to "settle' and wound up with Mono so do be careful -
Try taking a really hot shower and reading to fall asleep -
or one of those sleepy teas they make - ?
Otherwise your best advice is from your primary MD.
nembutal. very safe, good track record. guaranteed to work.
Ambien-hands down. I had insomnia for a long time, no side effects, and you wake up rested. I never was addicted, but you can not drive or cook, while taking it (after taking a pill) you may not remember things after wards, best to lie down and enjoy the rest, get a good 6 hours of sleep. ambien CR is for really stubborn people who can't fall asleep and stay asleep. I have took them on and off for many years. always worked, and friends who took them praise them as well. can not drink with them though!! that is a no no. Good luck. tash
I like the Benadryl answer...always worked for me.
Ambien is a good prescription one.
If I were you, I would try and cut down your hours of work if at all possible, and try to have a bit of "me time" before you go to bed, to wind down and relax..one tablet you can get over the counter in the UK, which really does make you sleep, but is not a "Valium" type of drug at all, is the anti-histamine Phenergan, which is often given to young children.it can make you feel a bit dopey next morning, but it does work. "Nytol" is another form of it, and there is a herbal type of Nytol too..
I don't like medication. I like cool temperatures. I lower my room temperature to 19- 20 degree celcius, and that's all. Cool temperature is the secret to sleep well for me, and for my kids.
You will get addicted to everything and every medication in life.
People get addicted to coffee, sugar, pops, chips, ice cream, smoking, ambiem, lazix, and all the remaining medication.
Try Sleep MD. I take this on occasion and have found it not to be habit forming. There is also Sleepy-time Tea. I have found that to work pretty well also.
