How do i stop cutting myself?

i cut myself and i kno its wrong and i always regret it but wen something happens to make me want to do it i cant breath until i do. how do i get level headed without cutting myself?

throw away whatever you cut yourself with. whenever you get the urge to cut, call ur bff and talk it out with her/him. talk to your parents and or a counselor about it!
Your actions come from a deep seated wish to go to the nut house.
As long as the cuts are such that you survive them,I guess it's OK but you'll look life hell in a few years.
honey , its not wrong . i know when you cut its 'cos the pain on the outside blocks out the pain your feeling on the inside .- even if you don't know that yet . a good start is if you don't be mean to yourself after it happens . my 7 year old uses the same words "can't breathe " to describe his distress . don't worry so much about the not breathing it won't actualy hurt you , just lie down if you feel like you might pass out - so you don't get injured . therapy might help ,as long as you can find a good therapist . DBT could definetely help .
distraction might help eg. if you can go see a movie or even eat chocolate
excersise ie.go for a walk run , whatever
cold shower can help , or hot then cold then hot etc.
or wear a rubber band around your wrist and flick it so it hurts (a thick rubber band is more effective - you might need more than one to start )

pain (cutting ) results in your body releasing endorphins which is why it helps you get back in control . the excersise and cold showers do the same thing .
some people actually pray and can get good results from that .
Change your habits. It won't be easy but you've got to start slowly. This may sound stupid but try it for a few weeks and you'll gradually notice a difference. Start by buying "Rescue Remedy Spray" from Boots or any other pharmacy or health shop.

[It's a herbal formulation that you spray onto your tongue when you're feeling in a panic]

Everytime you feel like cutting yourself and have the sensation of not being able to breathe... lay down, close your eyes and spray a load of Rescue Remedy into your mouth. You'll probably need more than the stated dose of one or two sprays. try ten. Then recite the alphabet backwards... really slowly... 3 times.

Seriously. This will teach you to overcome the immediate urge to cut yourself. Once you're calm and can breathe again you need to start thinking rationally and calmly about what caused you to feel like cutting yourself in the first place. Find someone reliable to talk things through with once you've calmed yourself down.

If you're ever feeling that you hate yourself - stop it at once - it will get you no where.

You'll be ok. Many people have overcome these sorts of problems in the past - there is no reason why you can't be one of them.

Take it easy and be patient with yourself.

And BTW: No! I'm not a rescue rememdy sales person, i just happen to know that this approach works!

self harm can become habit forming. It releases endorphins into the body which helps a person more relaxed and calm. However the feeling you get afterwords does not last long, therefore any type of stresses can trigger anther cutting episode. That is why it is so hard to stop.
I think it is good that you want to stop, good for you. However, you will need to replace it with other things to do when the urge to cut is there.
Call a friend, watch a movie, take a bath, go for a run, yell, scream into a pillow, go to the mall, read,dance, do anything that will help you take your mind off the urge to harm yourself.
The urge will pass, and with every passing it gets easier not to cut on yourself.
Talking to a therapist would be a good idea, so you can get your feelings out another way. Also keeping a diary could help.
When you want to cut yourself try distracting yourself, go for a walk/watch a film etc. You could also try things like drawing on yourself in red pen where you want to cut.

hi i used to cut everywhere i could, it doesnt really help you its psycology you convice yourself that cutting is making you feel better at the time but really all it is doing is making you feel even more depression in back of your mind i would recommend seeing someone like therpeist or go for dbt it working for me and it took me ages to open up to them why i was doing it , i think self harming is just a cry for help for me it was anyways the more i cut the less help i got back the less i cut the more help i got and now 6 years later i no longer cut i got my life some what back to normel i got my husband and kids,,, so i wish you all the best and just keep thinking postive and remove all knifes razer glass ornments etc leave nothing what you could cut yourself with,,, good luck i dont wanna sound horrid anyway what i rote either its just how i see things now so i dont ever go back to cutting,,good luck

Some people find that they can stop cutting through practices such as:
* holding cold ice cubes or
* putting finger in to frozen food
*Puting Rubber bands around the wrist and snapping them
*Using a marker and coloring red across your wrists.
*slash soda bottles old short or socks
*Put body lotion on the part of body you want to hurt.
1st you put down the knife then you relize that life is worth living and there is something important that you are suposed to do on this earth and you utting your self is defeating the purpose of living here

Before you make that first cut, remember--
You will find the blood and pain release addictive.
Even though you think you can make a few tiny cuts that aren't deep and will heal easily--

They will get deeper.

Just wait for 10 cuts to turn into 100.
Be prepared for your entire life to revolve around thinking about cutting--
Cutting and covering up cutting.
And just wait till that first time you cut "too deep."
And you freak out because the blood won't stop...
And you are gasping...
And you feel yourself shaking all over.
You are having a panic attack and you are terrified but you can`t tell anyone.
So you sit there alone...
Praying it will be okay--
Swearing you'll never let it go this far again...
But you will, and further.
Don't worry, you will learn how to take care of your cuts so that you can go deeper and deeper and avoid the ER.
And the better you get at treating your cuts,
The deeper they get.
You will lie to yourself and justify it when you find youself spending 20, 30, or 50 dollars every time you go the pharmacy.
You will feel the flutter of your heartbeat everytime you go to the counter to ring up your order.
Butterfly strips--
3 or 4 different kinds of dressings...
Betadine...
Antibiotic cream...
Medical tape...
Scar reducers...
You will tap your foot impatiently hoping the line will just move and noone will stare at you or wonder why you need all these things.
And at the same time secretly hope someone will notice--
Someone who is standing in line with an armful of the same supplies.
Someone who understands--
But of course that never happens.
Medical supplies won't be the only thing you spend all your money on.
Be prepared to buy a new wardrobe--
Longsleeve shirts in summer colors, bracelets, wristbands, boots...
The list goes on and on.
You will start looking at everyone in a different way.
Scanning their bodies for any signs of SI.
Just hoping that you might meet someone like you so you don't feel so terribly alone.
You wont even think about it,
As your eyes scan their wrists arms.
Hoping, just hoping they will be like you.
But they are not.
You will see their clean arms and feel terribly ashamed and alone.
You will start doing a lot of things alone.
You will always have to wash your laundry in private so no one sees the blood stains on your clothes and towels.
You will always be cleaning up the blood.
Scrubbing your bathroom floor.
Wiping the blood off your keyboard.
You won't be able to make it through a day without cutting.
Next thing you know you are in a public bathroom somewhere breaking open a scab with a sewing needle that you keep in your wallet for emergencies.
When you get really desperate,
Anything will be a cutting tool...
Scissors...a car key...a needle...a paperclip...even a pen.
Doesn't matter what it is if you need to cut bad enough you will find something.
Say goodbye to things you took for granted.
Like wearing shorts or sandals...pedicures...sleevele... tops.
A normal summer day at the beach or in a swimming pool will become a far off memory for you.
Get ready to itch.
Because you will itch and itch.
So much you will look like you have fleas or a skin disease.
You will become an expert on your body as you destroy it carefully.
You will dream about cutting.
You will dream about being exposed.
It will haunt you day and night and take over your life.
You will wish you never made that first cut because while you absolutely hate cutting--
At the same time you love it and can not live without
