Does Anyone else feel like this?? plz read?

Question:
I'm 19 and have mental health problems (depression, bpd, social anxiety,self-harm). I feel as though i don't get alot of help and i'm left to sort it out myself. I have doctors etc etc but they always ask me what they should do.

Does anyone else feel as though they aren't getting the right support etc and if so.. what did they do about it??

Thank you

If you're not satisfied with your doctor, get another one.

Seriously. If you have no confidence in your doctor, you'll make better progress with a doctor you believe in.

I hope you find one you can work with. Until then, remember that it's not uncommon to have these emotional problems when you're young and facing independence. Whatever you do, NEVER isolate yourself. There's people who love you, despite what you may think. Things can seem insurmountable at your age. They're not. Trust me, okay? I've been there.

I'm agnostic, I don't believe in God but I don't necessarily disbelieve in him either. I think that, if you're really thinking of harming yourself, you might also consult a priest or pastor. As much as I hate to recommend the church, it may offer you some hope or consolation to pull you through the difficult times.

Some of the "problems" you mentioned are very serious. The mention of self-harm, in particular, concerns me. Okay, fine, I'll tell you that I attempted suicide, 3 times, at the age of 19. Life was so painful, I couldn't bear it. But guess what? It passes. The thing about attempting suicide is that it can set your life back significantly. The attempt makes manifest a fatal statement spawned from a brief period of ones life that would otherwise fade into memory as a growing "phase". If harming yourself includes attempted suicide, please listen to me -- this too will pass. Really.

Since my youth (and attempted suicides), I've traveled the world and had a career and children. I retired early and am now living as an expatriate, in the Philippines, and loving every minute of it.

When I attempted suicide, I really believed life wasn't worth living. But guess what? It is. It really is. Don't ever believe otherwise.
no
do you have a religion?
i havent felt this way but i guarentee that other people have..and if ur docters are asking U what they should do then i would suggest getting new docters ones that DO no what there doing
hope u feel better :)
Hey there!
Both my parents are doctors, so i know quite a lot.
My mom always asks her patients what their decision is, but unlike other doctors, she says "if you arent sure, i'll let you know what i would have done if i were in your position, and explain why".

so try that. asking your doctor.
its all in the mind. the doctors are asking you what to do? get a new doctor. if it is serious get some meds, you cant fix it on your own if it is extreme. read "the secret"
yeh anxiety and its horrible dr dont understand either well depends on who you get i would deff go see someone else they should be able to offer you some kind of support and help dont suffer alone what about sites that you can join just google u will be able to talk to others that are going through the same feel free to contact meif u wish
The doctors ask what they should do because they want to know what you expect from them. I'm assuming you are talking about a general health doctor and not a psychiatrist. Some counseling or self-help groups may help in your quest for support. Our local college campus has a group for "cutters" I'm sure there is probably a local chapter nearby - I'm sorry I don't remember the name of it.
Sorry to here that
I have a doctor who will help if you are receptive. Do you believe in God?
Unfortunately there are a lot of people in your exact situation. It's tough to not have someone steady to rely on. You didn't mention family, but is there a family member you are close to? What about friends? What about your church? Everyone needs someone sometime. Try to reach out to your family, friends or church.
I'm sorry I don't but just try to relax. light some relaxing candles take bubble baths anything that could help you wind down and quit thinking about what's giving you certain problems!
yes, and I think that it is very normal to not feel like they aren't helping. The best help I've ever recieved is from an extreamly close friend. I really don't have many tips on how to get help except that in the end it really does have to be you. I know it is what you don't want to hear, but they can only help you help yourself. They can't fix you.
have you thought that maybe you have to decide and help yourself out of your mental angst?

If you have to rely on others for mental stability, what happens when they aren't there?
You can help yourself.

Are you just a list of disorders, or do you want to live as yourself?

well i'm 16 and i went through all that depression & self-harm when i was 14 till about now.
i felt that i didnt get the right support at times as well
you just need to focus on getting better
you can be your own worst enemy, or your best friend
choose to be your own best friend
i got over the cutting thing because well, it didnt really get me anywhere but a few months of getting grounded and a bottle of anti-dep. pills.
you just have to talk to someone you confide in, thats the best way. just let EVERYTHING out.
good luck! you'll figure it out
Get a new doctor . and quick . don't even think twice about it .. keep looking - there ARE some good ones out there
I am lucky I have a very nice caring doctor, never was I asked what they should do that is why you are going to the doctor to get help, I know it's hard to understand yourself what you want to do to fix your mental health.
Can you change doctors? Go see a psychiatrist? Or when you go to see the doctor tell them you want to speak to a mental health counselor, my doctor referred me to one. Good luck and don't give up.
some answers are rude.

anyways, I can't really relate to what you are trying to say... i didn't really understand... but my mom has mental health problems (anxiety, bipolar disorder) I have anxiety to,but not quite serious enough to take meds. I wish i could help... maybe if you added aditional details so people could getit more.
hi
this type of mentally illness even i have suffered for some time.

if you are working man/woman/student--better not to be alone, instead be with your friends, family, outing try to enjoy yourselves.

i need some detailed explanation about you so please write a mail to my e-mail address personally.
Lots of health authorities are pretty bad with mental health issues in general. You almost have to be right in the middle of some manic/depressive episode for people to react and do anything.

Do you get any kind of counselling or have a pyschiatrist that you see regularly? The only real advice I can offer as someone who has suffered very badly in the past with all manner of mental health problems is to try to step above the labels you have been given.

Everyone in my opinion has some form of BPD during their lifetime and everyone gets depressed. Those who do not stay depressed are the ones who realise that often human beings have bad days/moods. It is easy to get into your head that you are depressed when you are told that you are I know anytime I went to a doctor who said I was depressed that the moment I was told I actually became WAY more depressed than I actually started out being because someone had given me a label which meant I had an excuse to stay depressed. I am not trying to belittle mental health problems but I truly believe we are in charge of our own destiny and it isn't actually for anyone else to try to "fix" you. My advice to you is spend a small amount of time going through your current issues alone in a safe place and then let them go. Stop the negative chat in your head by changing the way you say something to yourself i.e My life is a mess and it will always be this way change it to I am going through a bad patch at the moment and small steps will make things right again.

Mental health issues are a long standing issue and take time to heal. Try to stop punishing yourself you are a human being and we all have issues that grind us down. Believe from the depths of your soul that you have the power to make great changes in your life and you really will.

Have faith in yourself as a human being and get yourself into the habit of telling yourself something that you are good at every single day. Eventually you will start to believe them when you see it for yourself.

Good luck and I wish you all the luck in the world
if you are feeling these things, the first thing i would say is see a therapist, but if you say they aren't helping you, then you are stuck with yourself

I basically have what you have (depression, self-harm, etc), and alot of times it's hard for me to cope in situations, but just know that all of the disorders you have can be overcome. Pills ( depression/ anxiety medicine ) can help a great deal with things like this, but how you deal with yourself is how you can truly help yourself.

What i like to do is take a piece of paper and make two columns. On the first column put "good", and on the second one put "bad". Then, in these columns, make lists of all the good and bad things in your life. After your done, look at the "bad" side. Next to what you've written there, also write how you can fix each individual bad thing in your life, or at least how you can make the best of it. It sounds kinda gay, i know, but it realley helped me. good luck to you!!
