Why do I have sleeping issues?

Question:
I have trouble falling asleep. Takes an hour or two.
And once I actually do get to sleep on one of those nights, I wake up a lot towards the morning.
Its like I just impulsivly start thinking and cant stop. also, I have multiple (I think) outrageous, fantastic, crazy dreams.
One time I had a dream where my younger brother was playing tag... with a GUN. lol. So I took the gun from him a broke his trigger finger. Or sometimes Im having sex or about to, Or sometimes Im robbing a BANK with my friends on bikes for some reason..?

Can this be analyzed to trace back to UNDERLYING thoughts or problems that I have?
Or are there some kind of exercises I can do before sleep to keep from thinking.

Answers:
I have the same problem. insomnia. it takes me forever to fall asleep because i have trouble getting my mind to shut down sometimes. try some sleep aids. i've used unisome before and that helps. plus they say that if you wake up and can't fall asleep, get up out of bed and go relax in the living room, read a boring book, until you feel sleepy again. then go back to bed. don't drink any caffeine after 4 pm. no alcohol either. if you drink alcohol before you go to bed, you'll fall asleep, but you'll wake up in the middle of the night and it actually disrupts your sleep.
This happened to my friend once. It turned out he was a big time sleep walker, and ended up reenacting his dreams on his younger sister by accident. This is no joke. Make sure you lock your door. You may even have to restrain yourself with shackles before you go to sleep. Oh, and about the trouble falling asleep, just watch Home and Garden Television.
I have the same problem, minus the dreams. You might try a winding down period before going to bed. Reduce simulation and allow yourself to relax. Read a book, soft music, etc. 1 hour or so before going to bed. Or workout earlier in the day, being physically tired also helps. Good luck!
Most sleeping disorders are caused by some sort of stress. It sounds like your problem is just that. You can't possibly expect to sleep if your brain is still running at a 100 mph. You must realize that sleep is a must for everyone, and sleep deprivation can lead to dangerous side effects. When you get into bed, realize that tomorrow is another day for thinking, and you only get a small amount of time to relax and sleep. Realize you must complete the sleep in order to work on your next day tasks. When you are lying down, don't have distractions, concentrate on how good you feel lying down, in bed, and feel good to be in bed. You will not fall asleep unless you feel good. Try this technique.

Or, if this doesn't work, go to your local pharmacy and look in the medication isle. Look for sleep aids. There are products such as Unisoms, and other cheaper brands that have the same active ingrediant. I particularly recommend going into a pharmacy such as CVS or Walgreens, and walking down the vitamin isle. You will see a vitamin called Melatonin. Purchase the bottle that has a 3 mg dosage per pill. The bottle says take 1, but most doctors recommend taking 3 3mg pills, adding up to 9 mg. DO NOT exceed 5 3mg pills, a total of 15mg. This is extremely bad because the active ingredient has calcium, more than recommended calcium can cause mineral deposits in your body, and cause a blockage and other side effects. It also puts a stress on your kidneys. If you need to take 5 3mg pills, be careful the next day in the matter of your calcium usage. Ex: Do not drink milk. For first time use, take 2 3mg pills. Take 30 minutes to 1 hour before bedtime. There is also another drug in the vitamin isle called Valerian. This is a mild sedative and has been used throughout history to sleep. It is an extract from a root. Take 2 at least 2 hours before bedtime.

If this doesn't prove to work, tell your doctor of your medical problem. Tell him that you cannot sleep and you have tried every over-the-counter sleep aid. Everything he mentions, say "Yes, I tried it, didn't work." He will then, write you a prescription for ambien, lunestra or some other type of stronger sleep aid. Don't try to get high with them, all you will feel is tiredness and you will put your body through a lot of stress and problems if you try to use it as a high.

Enjoy and good luck.
I wonder whether an understanding of the biochemistry of insomnia may help.
Sounds like a classic case of insomnia, look it up on the web and you will see that, also are you nervous or upset about anything. also inpulsive or racing thoughts can indicate bipolar disorder, also look that up on the web, your symtoms may just be stress but I'd see a doctor to be diagnosed. I have the same thing and havenot really been analyzed cause I would need money for Doctor, meds and tests.
You can buy herbal capsules called Valarian Root at your drug store, they help me get to sleep pretty quick, but I usually only sleep four hours, and then am up for the rest of the night, but at least valarain is harmless, inexpensive, and can be bought at a drug or grocery store, near the vitamin aisle. I take it cause four hours of sleep is better then no sleep, I really understand how you feel, and its lousy night after night, and tired durning the day, I hope this helps.
I guess i would suggest going to a professional and let them check it out for you. That is really the only way you are going to know what is really going on.
I have a similar problem, I haven't been able to fall alseep for months now. For some reason I can't "turn off" my mind and I lay there for hours just thinking about everything.
If it keeps up, maybe see a doctor.
