Getting over my fear of the dark?

Question:
Heyy there, so I'm a 14 year old girl, and I've been afraid of the dark for as long as I can remeber, I hate how I can't see what is in the room. I have to have my TV on, or else I can't fall asleep. What are some ways toget over this?

Answers:
Hello Emily! I to have night lights on throughout my house as I don't like the dark either! I see nothing wrong with this and even have a flash light near by just in case I need to use it. I like the television on or a night light at all times at night I am in my 40's so don't get so down on yourself! I think it is normal in a lot of ways to want to see in the dark. If you want to try to sleep in the dark then have a flash light on your bed in case you get a scared moment, this will make you feel more secure and maybe eventually you will just have it just for that security and may not have to turn it on at all! Hugs! Von
i used to be the same way now i can deal w/ it but i still like to have a tv or something on .. btw im 15 male
Don't worry about being afraid of the dark. I am 38 years old and I still have to have night lights through out the house. It is just a part of me and that is okay. Have a small light on or get some night lights.
just know that God is with you..
just turn on the light
Boo! You will grow out of it. How many nights with no incident will it take?
I'm afraid of the dark still and I am 31 :) I also have a HUUUUUGE imagination so in some ways it's a good thing because I am a writer.
Usually it will just happen, and then at times you will have a bad dream or something that scared you, and you will get that ole feeling back, but it will go away.
Turn the TV off so you can get a good night's rest. Instead put one of thse small lamps in your bedroom that only uses a 7 watt bulb. It acts like a nightlight, but better, You have enough light to move about without hurting yourself, but it isn't bright enough to interrupt your sleep.
p.s. I have one in the kitchen and bathroom as well.
Im almost 25 and I'm still afraid. Im ok in the dark if someone is there, but if I'm alone, there will always be a light on.

I suppose the only way to get over it, is to challenge your thoughts. And ask yourself, why do you need to see the room? And ask yourself is it a rational answer? Eventually, you kind of talk yourself out of it, but you have to persistent.

Good luck x
there's nothing in the room it is just your imagination. try to turn of your t.v and use a little night light, then if you get use to that try going to sleep with out it
