Why does depression affect your eating? And why is it different for men and women?

Question:
When my dad got depressed, he stopped eating! When I get depressed, I eat like crazy!

I dunno if there is a reason, but it's been bothering me. Just thought it would be interesting to put out there.!?

Answers:
Do you have Comfort Foods? Alot of times if we are Scared, Nervous, Worried, (depressed) we'll eat to make us feel better! Or at least we think that's what is happening! Alot of times because Guys are less emotional or just plain different they don't find comfort in food! Does your dad have a Comfort Food that you know of? Maybe he found it someplace else... like keeping busy at work and forgetting to eat! Does that make sense?
Different people, different results.
That's all that I can think of, really. =/
Digestion is controlled by the medulla. The medulla is affected by depression chemicals. They come from the upper brains where thoughts are. Did you have the same thoughts? Avoid bad expectations because you decide what to expect eh?
