Off lexapro now, will i lose those pounds it made me put on?

Question:
Ive been off Lexapro for about 5 months now. It made me gain 35 lbs. I was wondering if the weight would start to come off on its own?

Answers:
Highly unlikely.

Unfortunately, weight you gained from lexapro is not a function of the medication itself. Rather, it is a function of eating more/exercising less (as a result, possibly, of increased appetite from the lexapro).

The weight will have to come off in the opposite manner in which it was put on. In other words, decreasing cal intake and increasing burn/exercise is what will take the pounds back off.

I know it's a bummer, but better you know the truth than sit and wait for the pounds to disappear, when that's just not going to happen.

Hang in there,

No, I don't think that it will just come off on it's own. I know that it was put on because of hormones, but you are going to have to exercise to get that weight off. It sucks. But, the good news is, you won't be gaining anymore extra weight for no reason!
Hooray a question that I can answer and the answer is YES!!! I was on Lexapro for about two years and also gained about 30lbs from it. I have been on Prozac again now for about three months and not only do I feel spunky instead of downed out all of the time. Start weighing yourself once a week and you should see positive results of your weight loss. Good Luck
