Issues with therapists/psychiatrists.

Most likely if you tell them you are suicidal, as long as you tell them that you can "contract for safely" (that you will not hurt yourself), they will not send you to a psych ward. In a way it is good that you can say you do not like psych wards because this makes it a reason to keep on fighting on the outside of the hospital scene. You know yourself if you really need to go to the hospital. Maybe the healthy part of you can fight to keep you well enough to stay out of there. Best Wishes
There is a big difference between having suicidal thoughts and having a suicide plan. They don't usually hospitalize you for the thoughts unless you threaten you are going to attempt suicide.
Good luck and take care of you!

Well let me star by telling you, It take a brave person to even see a doctor, and even better to post they have feeling like they one you have had in the past. You can only get better if you trust the person treating you. If you do not, then I suggest that you find someone else. Ok to answer your question. There are a few questions that a doctor will ask you to see if you are at risk of hurting yourself. Just b/c you have thoughts of suicide does not mean you will be but in a psych ward. There are other things they can do Like have you sign a "No harm contract" that when you agree to call a list of ppl to help you if you want to harm yourself. Always know it is best to ALWAYS be HONEST, and discuss everything with your doctor, they are there to help you, and if going into a psych ward will help you. You may just need an adjustment of your meds, or just someone to talk to. I wish you the best mental health. U can e-mail or Im if you like.
wow thats a tough one..unfortunately I have a similar past with all of that.
I think you have to build a level of trust with them. Its very important that they are fulling involved in what is going on, or they cant help you get better. If you are feeling low, tell them, but discuss the problem, and let them help you find a non destructive way to cope with your feelings. Discuss a plan with them, find some things you can do to let them know this is how you are feeling, and prevent it from getting to a serious point. It may take some time to prove to your doctor that when you "feel suicidal" you wont attempt anything. This is why its important to build a level of trust with them, they cannot take the chance of you hurting yourself, so if they only know about your suicidal feelings when you've actually attempted something, then they will feel that it is absolutely necessary to put you in the psych ward.
Another thing to remember..I'm not sure if its an actual law or not, but if you tell them that you are "thinking about suicide" I think they have to hospitalize you..
Maybe instead of saying you are suicidal (suicidal kind of hints towards having a plan) think about how you feel..an actual emotion. Are you feeling trapped, or hopeless, or numb, or panicked, depressed..whatever you may be feeling, tell them that instead.
I don't know if any of that helps or not, I hope that things start looking up for you! take care!
