Anxiety & Panic disorders?

Question:
Does anyone out there have anxiety and panic disorders? I have them and phobias also. How do you cope with this. I have tried medicines and it seems to make things worse. Any ideas? I wont even stay alone and i wont drive a lone. HELP!

Answers:
If you have these panic attacks, and you think they are something that really needs to be controlled, try to find a therapist that can help you work through them. I do not believe in medications, I feel they only mask the truth. What I have done to try and cope with mine is to try and identify when you get a panic attack or anxiety. Keep a little journal with you and jot down times when you feel one coming on. If you are out in public, go somewhere where it is quiet and think of something that gives you peace. The only way to really get through them is to see a therapist that can give you better ways of coping. I hope some of these tips helped you, good luck and find your happy place. It really helps.
Trust in God - try taking a look at this poem/literary work. It's called "Footprints"

Anxiety sucks! Just believe in yourself and the one's that you love - God's not a bad option either.

Good luck!
yes, I suffered with them for years. THe good news is you grow out of them.
I never got prescription meds or anything, but I did read a book by Lucinda Basset called from panic to power.
She says stuff like"it's just a feeling" and how to use positive self talk.
Don't worry about it, like I said, you kind of grow out of them.
Please get her book-it will help.
Please change your self talk from," OMG what if the cars crashes", to," oh wow, what if I get there and have a really good time?." What if I drive over this bridge and not get scared at all? What if I can drive over this bridge every day? Just think of the possibilities!!
They are just feelings, no one knows you're having an attack, and the feelings can't hurt you.
The meds help me sleep at night, but I can't take them during the day and function. I keep telling myself that other people live thru this ( a simple train ride or car trip ) and that 'today is not the day' that I'm going to die. I do alot of deep breathing and when it gets bad ( like at work ) I close my eyes and move my bare feet back and forth on the carpet. I try to not let anyone see that. But for some reason it helps me.
I used to be the same way. It got so bad at one point I couldn't leave the house, go to the mall, go shopping, do anything! I was so afraid of having a panic attack while I was driving. Luckily I don't have this anymore. I started taking zoloft, 50mg upped recently to 75mg to help my depression. It's really really really helped me. If you've never tried zoloft or any other medication definately talk to your doctor, and not just a regular medical doctor. Find a psychitrist. They will be able to fully help you find the right medication and the right dosage. This is no way to live. I lived like you are for many years and I am so thankful that I found the medication so I could get my life back :) I wish you all the luck.
