Do you take Zoloft? What are some of the side effects and how serious are they?

Question:
also I read something about sexual side effects... can any one give me some details about that?

Answers:
there are various side effects ranging from stomach upset to diarrhea, mouth dryness, vomiting, tiredness, insomnia. The most serious side effect may be suicidal feelings but this may depend on the dose and how long you have been taking the drug. Sexual side effects are different for different people and some people are also taking other drugs that may interact with zoloft. Check the instructions that came with the medication. Usually it lists the side effects.
I have taken Zoloft for a very long time.I haven't suffered any side effects. As for sexual side effects, I couldn't tell you. I didn't have much of a sex drive before Zoloft. Because of my depression I think. But if I had to choose between a sex drive and calmness I feel with Zoloft I'd pick Zoloft.

I've been on Zoloft since Feb 2007 and have had very good results. But I also take Depakote and Tegritol. I've feel like I've been having sexual problems for a few years but it's not because of the Zoloft. It's been other meds.
I got dry mouth and headaches from it. For me, the sexual side effects were devastating. For me, I could not get aroused. I had to force myself to have sex, it was a chore. Then when I got interested, I couldn't orgasm. I already had severe depression, then I didnt even have that, so I would cry and cry and cry and get more suicidal than ever (the pills DID help my overall mood somewhat, but when you lose something important, it's better not to take the pills).

SSRI antidepressants, including Zoloft, were declared "reproductive toxins" by some international agency recently. You can google that phrase if you want to look it up. Something like 80% of people get these side effects. Wellbutrin has fewer of these side effects, and there is another one I forget the name of. You can take drug honeymoons too, and stop taking zoloft for a weekend or so so you can be intimate, then start up again. Any doc ought to be able to set you up to do that. Keep track if you are only depressed during PMS, too, since then you can take SSRI's only while you have PMS so it would only be 5-10 days a month.
I'm been taking it for YEARS. I have no side effects (including sexual) it turned my life around.
